Northeast Christsian Church is Hiring an Accountant Near Rockford, IL

Position Overview:

The Church Accountant plays a crucial role in managing the financial aspects of our church, ensuring responsible and organized disbursement of funds to support the ministry of the congregation. The ideal candidate possesses spiritual gifts such as administration, discernment, giving, faith, and helping, along with a passion for financially supporting the mission of making Christian disciples.

Qualifications:

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ (a Christian) and active participation (attendance) in a local church community.
  • Spiritual gifts: Administration, discernment, giving, faith, helping.
  • Skills and experiences: Financial acumen, detail-oriented record-keeping, confidentiality maintenance, commitment to the mission, ability to collaborate with individuals and ministry teams.
  • Education: Accounting Degree (preferred) or Certificate in Accounting
  • Experience: 5 Years experience (preferred) in the field of Accounting an duties listed
  • Knowledge: Understanding of biblical stewardship, revenue source identification, and management of resources.

The Church Accountant reports to the Management Team and is responsible for administering all aspects of the church finances and works in partnership with multiple stakeholders. This includes processing all income, accounts payable, payroll and benefits, bank reconciliations, month end financial reports, annual budget development, statistical tracking, and other items as requested by the management team or Board of Elders.

Accountability:

As with all church positions, the Church Accountant is accountable to the Board of Elders.

Employee will:

  • Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and regular attendance at a Christian church required (attendance at Northeast Christian Church preferred, not required).
  • Be punctual, organized, self-directed and able to follow a weekly/monthly schedule of activities and deadlines with minimum supervision.
  • Present a pleasant, cheerful attitude toward callers, both those in person and those on the telephone.
  • Present a well-groomed appearance appropriate to the office environment.
  • Recognize information that is of a confidential nature, and the self-discipline to maintain that confidentiality.
  • Be proficient in the use of office computers, utilizing word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and accounting software (preferably QuickBooks)
  • Work well with the other staff members and accept direction.
  • On-site position that requires in-person presence.

Regular Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial:

  • Manage and maintain investments including saving accounts and interest-bearing checking accounts
  • Input and/or review filings for quarterly and annual state and federal required reports including State & Federal Quarterly payroll reports, State & Federal Annual reports including W-2’s and 1099’s

Accounting:

  • Maintain accounting systems for both Northeast Christian Church's general operation and other activities including accounts payables, customer billings, receivables, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
  • Review deposits, review and approve disbursements and issue checks weekly
  • Review and issue monthly financial reports to be presented to the Board of Elders
  • Review and record weekly contributions and supporting documentation by members/ individuals of the congregation. Issue Statements of Contributions to members/individuals periodically
  • Develop annual budget, in consultation with the Finance Team of the Elders and including the coordination of input from individual ministry teams and other church staff
  • Process payroll bi-monthly for all church staff

Employment Status and Performance Reviews:

This is a part-time, non-exempt position requiring 15-20 hours per week. Performance reviews shall be conducted annually by the Management Team.

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
