Position Summary: The Safety Specialist provides site level support for driving safety excellence. This position focuses on the implementation of effective management systems that assure regulatory compliance, management of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) programs, achievement of performance excellence at the operating level, and supporting a mature HSE culture via the systematic processes.Duties and Responsibilities:Demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE excellence and a passion for occupational safetyLead by example and engage and inspire employees daily to want to work safely and look out for their co-workers' well-beingDevelop and support the implementation of HSE programs and practices consistent with the regulatory and corporate requirementsProvide expert technical support across the organizationAssist in establishing vision, goals, objectives, and targets for HSE performance; assist in developing quality metrics to drive performance improvementProvide expert hands-on technical involvement on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with HSE standards and policiesProvide assistance to maintain and improve site HSE Management System in accordance with Responsible Care 14001 standardsProvide expert technical support for Industrial Hygiene Programs including Personnel & Area Sampling, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) selection and compliance, Hazard Communication Program, Chemical Approvals, and TrainingParticipate in HSE activities and teams to improve and drive the HSE maturity level via Continuous ImprovementSupport the HSE programs by engaging and spending in the time operating areas dailyManage the site loss prevention programsParticipate in the development, implementation, and verification of the site’s compliance training programsAssist and support the operating areas on a 24/7 basis as needed. (i.e. plant turn a rounds)Basic Qualifications:3 years of experience in an occupational safety, health, or environmental role is a MUST. Please do not apply unless you have related experience. Bachelor’s degree in safety or environmental science, engineering, chemistry, or relatedProfessional certification (CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, etc.) a plusSix Sigma (Green Belt certified) or equivalent experience implementing productivity / continuous improvement projects is desiredAdditional Qualifications:Thorough working understanding of US Occupational Safety, EPA, etc. laws and regulationsExperience with ISO based management systems, RC14001 experience preferredIndustrial hygiene experience in a manufacturing environmentStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to provide timely and effective communications to all levels of the organizationDemonstrated ability to use influencing skills to accomplish goals and objectivesDemonstrated ability to work in a team environmentDemonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals at all level of an organizationStrong decision-making skills with bias for action balanced with consensus building abilitiesAbility to prioritize work and handle multiple / varied tasks efficientlyDemonstrated proficiency with incident investigations and root cause analysisProficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, databases, SAP, graphics) #LI-LR1
