About the Position

Position Description

The Senior Analytics Engineer will provide data management and engineering support for the Data Analytics, Enterprise Data Management and Research Science departments. This resource will manage, monitor, and maintain SQL Server databases used by these departments as well as support complex data requests. The Senior Analytics Engineer is responsible for organizing complex clinical and operational data from multiple sources to provide clean data sets and insights to end users, modeling data in a way that empowers them to build reports and analyses. This resource will also support the Data Analytics department in the completion of contract deliverables, special research projects, and other scientific inquiry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accelerate growth of our analytics landscape, including leading our Microsoft Azure data integration capabilities.
  • Own the design, build and implementation stages of complex data pipeline projects including troubleshooting, diagnoses, and issue resolution once in maintenance.
  • Develop, manage, and document project-specific analytic datasets and analytics data marts.
  • Merge data files from different platforms and sources using appropriate linkage where needed.
  • Provide data analyses and reporting in response to routine requests that require advance programming. This includes discussion and interpretation of the results with both internal and external requestors.
  • Utilize programming techniques to produce understandable and usable output (datasets, tables and reports) from various data sources driven by project specific needs, adhering to department standards and procedures including documentation of work.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies in data engineering, automation and analytics.
  • Collaborate with Research Analysts/Scientists, Data Scientists, other UNOS departments, and the larger Transplant Community to identify and understand their needs and translate these into impactful solutions.
  • Collaborate with IT departments including Information Security, Infrastructure, and Data Engineering in the development and maintenance of analytical data marts.Includes documentation and communication of scientific requirements for specific data elements.
  • Develop, demonstrate, and maintain knowledge of transplantation domain and the OPTN database, and use this knowledge in the generation of reports and analytical tools.
  • Validate code generated by other analysts in the form of peer review.
  • Perform exploratory data analyses to visualize, quantify, describe and validate data fields for analytical purposes.
  • Apply modern data stack experience and analytics engineering best practices to existing and new project builds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

8 years of experience data engineering experience with SQL Server database management systems

Critical Skills

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge, experience working with relational databases, and query authoring (T-SQL).
  • 5 years of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) programming required
  • PC proficiency including use of Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
  • Strong written and oral English-language skills, the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multitasking environment, the ability to work independently and as part of a team are required.
  • Requires self-motivated, collaborative individual who functions well within a team.
  • Critical thinking and analytic skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated ability to perform high-quality work required.
  • Communication skills to include ability to translate system requirements into consumable output, presenting results of analysis, or explaining impact of database changes required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in Cloud Data Infrastructure: Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, Databricks, Data Lake) preferred. Microsoft Fabric experience is a plus.
  • SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) development experience is a plus.

Education

4-year degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field of study, or equivalent professional work experience in Microsoft SQL Server required. Advanced degree in data-oriented or computing specialty is preferred.
