Our commitment is to ensure that students from low-income neighborhoods graduate from high school and are prepared for college and their future careers. We proudly stand as the largest extended learning organization in the heart of Silicon Valley, dedicated to nurturing the educational journey of 3,500 K-12 students across East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. Operating through 5 clubhouses and 24 school sites, we implement tried-and-true social and academic interventions, alongside captivating enrichment activities. These initiatives wield a powerful impact on a youth's academic achievement and life trajectory.
The Math Teacher will be working with small cohorts of students or providing 1:1 tutoring specifically with a focus on Algebra. This position is for those who are available to work part-time and satisfy one of the following: have a valid teaching credential, are currently enrolled in a credential program, or passed the CBEST and CSET-Mathematics exams. This role reports to the Vice President, Redwood City Clubhouse.
- Engage with students to support them in their mastery of math skills
- Communicate academic progress and areas for improvement to parents
- Have a solid understanding of the Common Core Standards (Seeing Structure in Expressions, Arithmetic with Polynomials and Rational Expressions, Creating Equations, Reasoning with Equations and Inequalities)
- Stay up to date with the multiple Math courses offered in our Sequoia Unified School District
- Train Math tutors to effectively support students
- Ability to multitask and work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
- Exceptional time management, leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to create an academic environment that creatively engages
- Adaptable to various learning styles
- Ability to teach using a growth mindset framing for lesson plans
- Experience in teaching students in a wide range of mathematics courses
- Comfort with collaborating with teachers, parents, and students toward achieving academic success
- Experience working with high school teens in academic environments
- Clear communication skills when dealing with teens, staff, and parents
- Currently working towards Bachelor's Degree in mathematics related field or currently have an Associate’s Degree in Mathematics
- Experience with MDTP and DOMA assessments
- Familiar with courses and curriculum at Sequoia Union High School District
- Proficient/fluent in Spanish preferred
- Experience teaching Mathematics to high school students, familiar with 9-12 grade content
- Hold or working towards a single-subject teaching credential preferred
Hours: 3:00-8:00pm
Days: 2 days a week (Monday to Friday)
- Pay Range: Hourly, Part-time: $25.00-$30.00/hr, depending on experience (DOE).
