Introduction

The State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Central Office, seeks a talented and qualified individual for the position of Maintenance Supervisor 2.

Position Highlights

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • First (1st) shift
  • Monday - Friday
  • Must be flexible in order to meet the needs of the agency

The Position

As a Maintenance Supervisor 2 you will provide first line supervision and direction to the five (5) full time maintenance staff.

Additionally, this role is an integral part in maintaining regulatory, life safety compliance thus passing stringent inspections and keeping funding for these facilities intact.

This position is a vital part of maintaining the health and safety conditions of our waivered and other critical facilities.

Additional duties include

  • Provide and direct 24 / 7 emergency responses to maintenance emergencies.
  • Oversee the contractors that provide fire safety sprinklers, fire alarms, pest control, lawn care, snow removal and other various services at these locations to maintain the facilities in good condition.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising a large crew (6 or more) of highly skilled trade workers and lower-level employees.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff;
  • Provides staff training and assistance;
  • Conducts performance evaluations;
  • Determines priorities and plans crew work;
  • Establishes and maintains crew procedures;
  • Develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards;
  • Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
  • Prepares reports and correspondence;
  • May make plans and cost estimates of work to be done;
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of
  • relevant state and national codes and regulations;
  • modern methods and equipment involved in the trade indicated by the parenthetical of the class;

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings.

NOTE : Experience performing technical duties within the maintenance trade area on a military base, aircraft carrier or large compound may be substituted for the General Experience on a year for year basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of the General Experience must have included performing skilled tasks in either the maintenance and repair of buildings or the military experience referenced above.

NOTE : For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Skilled Maintainer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in facilities occupied by persons with intellectual disabilities.
  • Experience developing proficiency of all trades.
  • Experience working with computers and familiarity with the Emaint work order system.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and / or certifications.

CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

At state airports : In addition to the checking of references and of facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for appointment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
  • A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights; may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and to risk of injury from equipment.
  • The appointing authority may require completion of an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class.

Incumbents may be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
