We also have offices in Scotland and various distilleries and production sites across the UK from Plymouth to London to Speyside.

Your new team

This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers, our 1,600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future, as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.

The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is delivered. In addition, Operations play a very active role in Innovation, Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.

The Environmental Sustainability team sit within our Production department and are a team of 3 who support the business to achieve our environmental sustainability objectives and advise on related business decisions.

Your unique contribution

You will have four main areas of responsibility:

Agriculture Support - to collaborate and gain stakeholder support for the sustainable cereal sourcing strategy and identify and review the suitability of assurance schemes for sustainable / regenerative agriculture. You will collaborate with and support our grower partnership schemes on sustainable cereal production in collaboration with our maltsters, grain merchants and grower representatives. You will also commission and review life cycle assessments of novel cereal and mixed farming models and methods and nutrient supply chains.

Land Management - to support and review the roll-out of the land management strategy to achieve the conservation objectives for non-operational landholdings. You will review and propose Geographical Information Systems for recording and managing land and asset related data for the business.

Waste Management - to review and enhance the approach to the management of effluent sludge disposal to land in collaboration with agents and research bodies.

Industry Collaboration - to contribute to Scotch Whisky Association working groups on cereals and the management of organic residues and establish constructive working relationships with key stakeholders in the agricultural sector (e.g., Centre for Sustainable Cropping, AHDB) for input to grower partnerships and development of research proposals. You will contribute to industry led research and local project partnerships on natural capital and ecosystem services.

Who you'll be working with

Internally, you will collaborate with the wider Production team as well as other teams across the organisation, including Health & Safety, Legal and Finance.

Externally, you will collaborate with industry working groups and key stakeholders, to contribute to research and projects in our industry.

Your blend of talent

This position could be right for you if you:

  • Have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Have relevant experience in the field of land management, agricultural systems, or conservation practices with strong scientific and technical skills.
  • Have knowledge of soils and soil/nutrient/manure management.
  • Have excellent communication and influencing skills with experience in talking to and dealing with the farming community.
  • Are computer and system literate with strong project management skills.
  • Hold a current UK driving licence.
