Pathology Technician at Providence Portland Medical Center. This posting represents Full-time, Evening Schedule (3:30 - 00:00).
The Pathology Technician contributes a valuable service aiding pathologists in providing patient diagnosis. Information gained through gross evaluation of tissue provided by the Pathology Technician and tissue slide prepare by histology technicians allow a pathologist to either identify or dismiss disease. The preparatory steps taken to ensure a quality diagnosis are key to this relationship.
Under general supervision of a Pathologist or Pathologists' Assistant or Surgical Pathology Supervisor/s, the Pathology Technician is responsible for rendering professional services in the Department of Surgical Pathology. These services include performing limited surgical pathology examinations, assisting, initiating, and instituting other procedures as directed by the supervising pathologist and as necessary to meet quality and service standards in the Regional Pathology Policies and as directed by Regional Lab Administration. Additional duties may include preparing microscopic tissue slides for diagnostic and/or research purposes; performing tissue stains to assist in diagnosis; handling specimen accessioning; and maintaining the laboratory and equipment. In addition, attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and a concern for patient well-being are imperative characteristics of this position.
