Job Description – Purchasing Manager
Continuously reduce the total cost of ownership, enable revenue creation, and optimize vendor relationships supporting purchasing of Capital Equipment. Establish strategies and lead initiatives that will enable the implementation of strategic procurement objectives in the assigned areas of spend while working closely with all internal and external customers and stake holders. This role will have key responsibility for driving vendor performance for capital equipment, services, and new product development initiatives aligned with our overall goal of creating world-class operations.
Responsibilities
This position will provide leadership for capital equipment & services and cross functional teams. Primary responsibilities will be the execution of purchasing efforts in support of projects for improving existing manufacturing processes, and support the search and evaluation of vendors to produce new products. May participate as a member in other cross functional point teams and steering committee stakeholder groups to align and implement common strategies and platforms for assigned categories. This role will report to the Head of Purchasing, N.A.
· Lead in the development and deployment of capital equipment and services strategies that align with the overall purchasing strategy.
· Guide and collaborate with stakeholders towards the common categories/capital equipment and services strategy. Track progress and adjust strategies to ensure continual improvement of total cost of ownership and vendor performance.
· Optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), revenue capture, and capital budget allocations by leveraging fact-based elements including: total cost analysis, ability to perform to specification, external benchmarks, market drivers to support capital equipment and service strategy, and business objectives.
· Define, collaborate, and execute the negotiation strategy, negotiation schedule, and supplier selection criteria to support the execution of the capital equipment and services strategy. Identify supply risks to both continuity of supply and cost, develop and execute risk mitigation plans.
· Develop alternate/secondary sources of supply for key technology platforms in conjunction with engineering, collaborate, and manage supplier development projects as needed to mitigate technology obsolescence challenges.
· Maintain excellent relationships with senior leaders of current and prospective vendors and project team members. Perform due diligence and analysis on prospective vendor relationships, develop long-term partnerships, and make cost-effective purchases of equipment and services.
· Support broader-based purchasing efforts for cost management and cash contribution to the company.
· Manage vendor performance with respect to engineering platforms and technology roadmaps, seek and develop new vendor partnerships as needed to support new product development; and eliminate single/sole source risks.
· Experience working with Plex or a similar ERP system to execute purchase orders and manage requisitions to support transactional activities for equipment purchases. Work within PPM or a similar platform to manage the approvals of capital expenditures.
Qualifications Education
· Bachelor’s degree: Engineering/Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
· Master’s degree: Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration preferred
· Other education: LEAN/Six Sigma, Should Cost Modeling, Change Management, Project Management
Experience
· 5-7 years of experience in procurement/supply chain management or 5-7 years of mechanical engineering, leading cross-functional teams, or direct supervisory experience working in a matrix-structured environment.
· Preferred Knowledge of LEAN/Six Sigma/continuous improvement strategies and tools
· Preferred experience in the Automotive industry.
