Description

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Mental Health Counselor to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:

The counselor provides clinically and culturally competent guidance and teaches skills to individuals, couples, families, and groups who are dealing with issues that affect their mental health and well-being. Documentation of clinical work is accurate and completed within 72 hours of service. This individual seeks to improve upon clinical competencies through regular supervision, consultation, and continuing education. The counselor may also perform other duties in the facility as deemed necessary by management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide high quality, compassionate and ethical outpatient counseling to patients as scheduled.
  2. Serve as a clinical resource to Physicians Care Centers and with patients experiencing mental health crises.
  3. Complete clinical documentation on the date of service in the electronic health record.
  4. Maintain productivity based on targeted goals set by MVH management. Work hours will be set based upon the assignments associated with each individual position. On-call will be an aspect of the position when needed for the crisis line.
  5. Actively participate as a positive member of the clinic environment.
  6. Maintain good standing with the appropriate board and insurance entities.
  7. Complete all continuing education requirements. Stay current with updated research and best practices.
  8. Be aware of community referral sources (e.g., occupational therapy) and refer when necessary.
  9. Knowledgeable regarding the various local, state and federal regulations relating to the provision of mental health services as well as MVH policies and procedures to insure compliance.
  10. Secure patient information per HIPAA standards.
  11. Provide support in completion of preauthorization’s for services as requested by administrative staff. Perform other duties as assigned (including but not limited to completion of billing forms, phone calls, and participating in case consultation meetings).
  12. Insures that the clinic is maintained in a clean and organized manner.
  13. Provides input to the management as observations of needs for patients, providers, or the facility warrants.
  14. Attempts to resolve any patient, provider, and/or family concerns with the services provided by the counselor, and ensuring concerns are reported also to management with request for assistance in resolution when necessary.
  15. Behaves and dresses in a professional and courteous manner consistent with the position of a medical professional and as a representative of Mountain View Hospital.
  16. Performs other duties as needed or requested.

Qualifications


Education/Certification: Completion of graduate training at the Masters of Counseling level as well as licensure in their field of study as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

Experience: Minimum of two years post graduate clinical experience in providing direct counseling services in individual, couples, family, and group modalities.

Language/Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Mental Capabilities: Must have the capacity to work with a variety of clientele and conceptualize their concerns accurately during the interactions so as to provide relevant and meaningful clinical interventions specific to their needs. Must also have the ability to understand new scientific findings presented in peer-reviewed journals and clinical training with the skill to then implement this knowledge in a clinical setting.

Interpersonal: Capable of developing rapport with a variety of patients, referring providers, and coworkers through positive verbal and nonverbal skills. Able to defuse volatile situations with patients. Always demonstrates a positive attitude and projects a sense of warmth in one’s demeanor that sets others at ease and invites open discussion.

Performance:  Ability to provide accurate and complete documentation of clinical work on the day of service. Ability to carry a full caseload of outpatients, work in a variety of modalities (e.g., individual, group, etc…), across a broad spectrum of psychopathology (e.g., diagnoses, acuity, etc…), and maintain high level of quality over time as evidenced by positive outcomes, maintenance of patients on caseload, patient feedback indicating high satisfaction, and positive compliance reviews.
