Three Rivers Diagnostics is seeking a reliable, experienced, and upbeat Full Time Specimen Processor to unpack and enter all data accompanying specimens received at the laboratory and to begin the testing process at our laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA.
Hours:
Tuesday - Saturday: 10:30am - 7:00pm
Primary Purpose
A Specimen Processor is responsible for unpacking and entering all data accompanying specimens received at the laboratory and to begin the testing process. Other duties include managing lab inventory, ensuring all work areas are clean, and performing clerical duties as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Handle and process laboratory specimens ensuring integrity of the specimen.
· Accurately label and number specimens according to laboratory procedures.
· Prepare aliquots and centrifuge specimens.
· Ensure supplies, work area, and equipment are sanitized and in operable condition.
· Properly dispose of expired specimens.
· Maintain high level of accuracy entering client and specimen information into laboratory systems.
· Verify accuracy and resolve discrepancies or deficiencies of client and specimen details listed in the organization’s database and all written documentation affiliated with the specimen.
· Assist clients and phlebotomists with inquiries pertaining to specimen requirements and test turnaround times.
· Maintain daily missing information and discrepancy logs.
· Scan, fax, print, file, and store data documents per lab protocol.
· Perform all non-patient facing duties, including restocking inventory, ordering stock supplies, sanitizing, filing, answering phones and utilizing email as appropriate.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Ability to work without direct supervision in a team environment.
· Ability to positively communicate effectively with patients, staff, and management.
Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Minimum one year experience as a laboratory specimen processor in a clinical lab environment.
· Must have demonstrated excellent customer service, technical and laboratory skills.
· Ability to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and in accordance with safety guidelines.
· Must have good attendance and reliable transportation.
