Three Rivers Diagnostics is Hiring a Toxicology Analyst Near Pittsburgh, PA

Job Description:

Toxicology Analysts are responsible for specimen processing, monitor test system performance, data review, and result reporting. They should only perform tests authorized by the laboratory director and that are within the individual’s skill level as determined by education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Testing personnel must:

  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, quality control (QC), reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
  • Prepare patient samples for analytical testing, maintain LC-MS/MS systems, identify when test systems are not functioning properly, and troubleshoot or notify the supervisor.
  • Follow all safety protocols when handling human samples, such as urine or oral fluid.
  • Review chromatograms to ensure calibrators and QC are within acceptable limits and unknown patient samples meet all review criteria (signal, peak shape, ion ratios, etc.).
  • Calibrate, run and troubleshoot QC, and perform drug screen testing using an immunoassay analyzer.
  • Enter and/or review patient results in a laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Maintain records for instrument maintenance, instrument troubleshooting, temperature checks, calibrator or QC failures, lot to lot checks, patient sample handling/tracking, and communication logs within the laboratory.
  • Appropriately handle and analyze proficiency testing samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Participate in validation experiments, workflow efficiency studies, and contribute ideas on how to improve laboratory practices.
  • Preanalytical duties including but not limited to, labeling, centrifuging, pouring off, aliquoting, and accessioning.
  • Restock inventory, keep workstations clean, and check in new lots of reagents or QC when appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Supports ongoing changes in a professional manner, contribute to a positive work environment and to the team effort of the laboratory.

Schedule:

Tuesday - Saturday, 11am - 7:30pm

Minimum Educational Requirements:

Bachelors degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Hiring multiple positions from 0 to 4 year(s) of laboratory experience.
  • Clinical tandem liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LCMSMS) experience preferred. Experience with an automated immunoassay screening analyzer preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Basic understanding of liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • Ability to prepare samples, troubleshoot LC-MS/MS instrumentation, and experience reviewing chromatograms.
  • Laboratory science, laboratory compliance, safety, time management skills/work independently, excellent communication skills, ability to maintain records, work in a fast-paced environment, ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently,
  • Follow lab SOPs, use technical equipment with accuracy, and comply with HIPAA policies.

Professional Certifications or Licenses:

MLT/MT Certification Preferred.
