Interpace Diagnostics Group is Hiring a Laboratory Supervisor Near Pittsburgh, PA

Scope:

This position hours are Monday - Friday 11:30am -8pm

The Laboratory Supervisor is a leadership position responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and implementing quality-driven laboratory practices within laboratory operations focusing on quality control. This position works with laboratory management to manage all laboratory processes, procedures, and equipment from specimen accessioning to results delivery. The Laboratory Supervisor will ensure accurate and timely testing, conformance to laboratory processes and procedures for testing. This position works with the Laboratory Manager to ensure compliance of testing with all laboratory licensing and accrediting requirements and guidelines, e.g., CAP, CLIA, and New York State, and assists with validation of new tests, methods and equipment as needed. This is a hands-on position and is responsible for performing day to day routine clinical work. Performs other job-related duties as required.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
:

  • Reviews, approves and troubleshoots laboratory data for delivery to pathologist for final reporting in conjunction with lab manager, as assigned.
  • Troubleshoots, provides technical support and consultation for laboratory staff, as needed for testing.
  • Performs lab work associated with delivery of company’s clinical and research services, while coordinating workflow and setting laboratory staff schedule in conjunction with the lab manager.
  • Primary laboratory trainer, and assessor of competency. User tester for LIMS as assigned and in conjunction with lab manager. Coordinates support from laboratory staff for these initiatives, as needed.
  • Develops and documents lab processes and procedures to ensure CAP/CLIA and state agency approvals.
  • Assists the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory QC Supervisor, or designee, to coordinates designated QC testing to ensure the validity of all lab processes to comply with GLP’s, CAP/CLIA, state agency approvals and all local, state and federal requirements.
  • Responsible for scheduling REES on-call and is primary Rees on-call backup.
  • Work with the Laboratory Manager and IT department to define requirements for LIMS improvements related to the laboratory.
  • Works with the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory QC Supervisor, or designee, to maintain QC materials, QC procedures, controls, reagents and acceptable criteria. As well as, any initiatives to maintain compliance with CAP/CLIAand state agency regulations.
  • Maintains laboratory competency
  • Works with the Laboratory Manager to assure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from labs established performance specifications, and ensuring patient results are not reported until corrective actions have been taken and test systems are functioning properly.
  • Works with the Laboratory Manager to ensure lab safety in compliance with appropriate OSHA standards, health guidelines, and other applicable regulations regarding the storage and handling of biological and chemical substances.
  • Provides ongoing feedback, mentorship, performance, and professional development opportunities to all direct reports.
  • Collaborates and communicates with other departments under guidance of lab management.
  • Prepares for and holds routine meetings with the laboratory team.


Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain lab processes in line with regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform essential scientific, regulatory, and administrative lab functions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated ability to write and summarize laboratory information, reports, and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and communicate, provide guidance and have strong leadership.
  • Experienced user of relevant computer programs including MS Word, Excel, Access, LIMs systems and specialized laboratory instrumentation and software.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple competing tasks simultaneously.


Education and/or Experience:

  • The Lab Manager has bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution and has at least 4 years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level. The clinical laboratory shall be part of a hospital, university, health department, medical research institution or other institution which provides equivalent training.
  • The Lab Manager holds a master degree from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and, subsequent to graduation, has had at least four years of pertinent laboratory experience of which not less than two years have been spent working in the designated laboratory specialty in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level. The clinical laboratory or blood bank shall be part of a hospital, a health department, university, medical research institution or other institution which provides equivalent training.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

MT or MLT (ASCP) preferred


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for daily oversight of laboratory team.

Occasionally lifting files or paper weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, operate a calculator, telephone, copier and other such office equipment. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
