Substitute Special Education Teacher

We have a new opening for a Substitute Special Education Teacher. The substitute teacher participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team in provision on educational instruction to students.

The Teacher will provide classroom instruction with attendant documentation for both the facility record and for each student’s school system.

Position duties include Referral Development activities and contact with school systems. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position Requirements :

Licensure / Certification / Registration :

• Virginia Provisional Teaching Certificate.
• Current certification in Special Education and endorsement in Emotional Disabilities AND Specific Learning Disabilities OR endorsement in Special Education General Education Curriculum K- required.
• Current certification in CPR, HWC and First Aid
• Current certification in medication management (Dayschool only).

Education / Experience :

• Minimum four year degree
• Master’s degree preferred
• Demonstrated teaching ability in an inpatient psychiatric setting
• Demonstrated ability to work with adolescents to years of age

General Requirements :

• Must be at least years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services.
• Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
• Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
• Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
• Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.
• Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
