Primary Responsibilities

The Volunteer Services Assistant is responsible for assisting the Coordinator of Volunteer Services in planning, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the volunteer program, including the orientation and training of volunteers when necessary.

Essential Functions

• Assist with receiving referrals, assigning volunteers to patients, and informing hospice IDG team of assignments.
• Serve as backup for notifying volunteers of deaths/discharges.
• Collaborate on program enhancement and growth to develop and implement recruiting, training, and retention programs for volunteers.
• Assign volunteer tasks based on skills and interests to meet program requirements.
• Educate individuals and community groups on hospice volunteer services.
• Assist with in-service documentation and preparation.
• Manage volunteer files and assist with meetings, mailings, and events.
• Maintain the monthly newsletter.
• Enter Volunteer Progress Reports.

Knowledge, Skills, and Education Requirements

• High School or College Graduate
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a healthcare setting, Hospice and/or volunteer experience preferred.
• Possess strong interpersonal skills that promote effective communication and teamwork.
• Must effectively manage stress, multiple tasks, and interruptions while maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor.
• Well-versed computer literacy with in-depth knowledge and experience Microsoft Suite as needed to maintain volunteer records, statistics, reports, and presentation creation.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Situated in a professional office environment, this role is largely sedentary with rare lifting and/or carrying up to 20 lbs. This role routinely requires use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Occasional local travel as required for professional meetings and events.
