First Baptist Christian Academy is Hiring a Secondary Social Studies Teacher Near Pasadena, TX

First Baptist Christian Academy is an accredited private Christian school that has been providing high quality education for students grades prek3 through 12 for 30 years to residents in the Pasadena, Deer Park, LaPorte, Clear Lake, and surrounding communities.

The school is seeking a teaching professional who would enjoy working in a vibrant Christian community with parents who wish for their children to be equipped with an excellent academic education with a biblical worldview. SUMMARY OF POSITION, FUNCTION AND DUTIES
Under direction of the principal, the teacher is assigned to teach students and to fulfill the mission of honoring the Lord

Jesus Christ by providing students an education based upon academic excellence with a biblical worldview. The school administration may assign additional duties or specify other functions needed as may be appropriate for specific faculty posts .

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

PERSONAL BELIEF & BEHAVIOR

  • Must be a born-again Christian whose lifestyle and character demonstrate obedience to God and the Holy
  • Scriptures, and express agreement with the Statement of Faith, doctrinal positions, and Christian lifestyle requirement of the school.
  • Must be able to serve as a positive Christian role model to others in the FBCA school context.
  • Must have an understanding of and commitment to FBCA’s education objectives and philosophy of education.
  • Must possess sufficient biblical knowledge to enable the teacher to integrate Scripture into subjects taught, thus imparting to the students a biblical worldview position.
  • Must faithfully attend a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith of FBCA.
  • Must affirm that working at FBCA as a teacher is consistent with what he/she believes is pleasing to God and represents a good stewardship of his/her time, talent, and professional abilities.
  • Must maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, and good taste consistent with school policy.
  • Must enjoy working with young people.

PROFESSIONAL

  • Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree. Graduate degrees are highly desirable.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of subject matter and be effective in teaching and maintaining appropriate classroom discipline.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to properly use the English language.
  • Work cheerfully under the authority of the Principal, Head of School and School Board.
  • Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public.
  • Work to maintain positive working relationships with staff and parents. Avoids gossip.
  • The teacher agrees to apply for, work toward, and /or maintain ACSI certification. A new teacher to the school must complete, at a minimum, the requirements for temporary ACSI certification within six (6) months of commencing teaching at this school before being eligible to be considered for a new contract. All teachers shall maintain current ACSI certification to be eligible to be considered for a new contract.
  • A valid state teaching certificate is preferred.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to schedule and other changes.
  • Excellent judgment and discretion.

ADDITIONAL JOB EXPECTATIONS

  • Maintain accurate, timely records and documents (attendance, discipline, academic, etc.)
  • Apply FBCA policies (academic, attendance, discipline, etc.) consistently, fairly, and objectively.
  • Keep open communication with parents regarding academic and/or behavioral problems as well as successes
  • Inform administration of serious student academic, classroom, social or spiritual problems.
  • Be prompt in meeting deadlines, reporting to work, devotions, assigned duties, and meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend school activities (parent meetings, major fund-raising activities, professional development, extra- curricular).
  • Cooperate with church guidelines on shared facility, personnel, and equipment usage.
  • Project a plan of study for the year, following the FBCA Scope and Sequence/Curriculum Guides.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

The performance of teachers will normally be evaluated by the principal on a yearly basis with direction provided when performance does not meet or exceed expectation. Evaluations may be conducted more frequently or less frequently, depending on the needs of FBCA. The expectations for teacher performance are defined as specific Performance
Standards. The teacher is evaluated on his/her effectiveness in meeting or exceeding each standard. Performance Indicators provide examples of observable, tangible behaviors that will occur if a standard is being successfully met. The standards are listed below:

  • Standard I: Student Engagement/Instructional Practice Teacher demonstrates understanding of content, instructional planning and delivery by providing content-rich, standards-based, differentiated instruction that actively engages students and promotes higher order thinking skills.
  • Standard II: Instructional Resources/Technology Teacher seeks out and uses available resources and technology to provide appropriate instruction for students as well as providing opportunity for students to use technology to enrich their own learning and develop academic and technical skills.
  • Standard III: Support for Learning Teacher addresses the whole child in both instruction and interactions in ways which offer support and opportunity to all.
  • Standard IV: Classroom Management Teacher sets clear expectations for behavior and classroom procedures, addresses disruptive behavior, reinforces desired behavior, provides equitable treatment for all.
  • Standard V: Teacher/Student Relationships Teacher interacts with all students in respectful ways at all times, maintaining a physically and emotionally safe, supportive environment to facilitate high levels of learning as well as social-emotional and spiritual development.
  • Standard VI: Biblical Integration Instruction and interactions are designed to foster spiritual growth and a biblical worldview.
  • Standard VII. Assessment Strategies Teacher uses formal and informal methods to engage different types of students in class assess student growth as aligned to instructional goals and course objectives. Teacher adjusts instructional strategies and content delivery as needed.
  • Standard VIII: Professional Practices and Responsibilities Teacher consistently conducts his or herself professionally in concert with a Christian attitude of ministry as demonstrated through actions, attitudes, communication, and demeanor.
  • Standard IX: Compliance with Policies Teacher positively supports administration, complies with all school policies, and actively works to promote a successful school program.
