Agency OverviewLakemary Center is a not-for-profit agency which provides a wide range of services to children and adults who have Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Established in 1969, Lakemary now serves about 500 individuals each year in East Central Kansas. Programs include an onsite K-12 accredited school, a psychiatric residential treatment facility (PRTF) for children 6-21, adult residential and day services in both Miami and Johnson Counties, targeted case management, and a shared living program. Lakemary Center strives to identify and respond to the unique needs of the people it supports. Lakemary’ s corporate office is located in Paola, Kansas, just south of Kansas City.
Job SummaryIn collaboration with the Executive Board of Directors, develop and implement direction of the organization and strategic goals and objectives in alignment with the agency’s mission, values and strategic plan. Provide leadership to position the company at the forefront of the human services industry. Develop a strategic plan to advance the company's mission and objectives and to provide quality, cost efficient programs, while maintaining growth as an organization.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Oversees company operations to insure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.
  • Provides leadership and supervision of multi-disciplinary executive team which includes Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Adult Services, and Vice President of Children’s Services.
  • Plan, develop, and implement strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the company.
  • Approve company operational procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Review reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  • Evaluate performance of executives for compliance with established policies and objectives of the company and contributions in attaining objectives.
  • Promote the company through written articles, personal appearances at conferences and on radio and TV, etc.
  • Represent the company at legislative sessions, committee meetings, and at formal functions.
  • Promote the company to local and regional constituencies.
  • Build a fundraising network using personal contacts, direct mail, special events, and foundation support.
  • Present company report at Board of Director meetings.
  • Direct company planning and policy-making committees.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements
  • Significant leadership experience in an organization of comparable size and complexity.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution.
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures. Experience in formulating policy and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Knowledge of public relations principles and practices. Knowledge of communication and public relation techniques. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to identify and secure funding/revenue sources.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate and interact with officials at all levels of government and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Human Services Management, Business Administration, Master’s in Social Work, or related degree preferred. Demonstrated program experience with IDD and behavioral therapy is preferred.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel.
Compensation: Commensurate with Experience.
