Butte County, CA is Hiring a Social Worker Assistant (ASD) Near Oroville, CA

Summary

The current vacancy is in the Adult Services Division

New employees generally start at the beginning of the salary range. The salary range has 7 steps with employees typically starting at step 1 and moving to step 2 upon the completion of a successful one year probationary period. Each year thereafter, upon completion of successful performance, employees move to subsequent next step. Each step represents a 5% increase.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provides assistance to Social Workers by performing specifically assigned support functions in social services settings and client homes.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from a Social Work Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.


CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level classification in the Social Worker series. Incumbents assist Social Workers with accessing social service programs, general case management, coordinating referral services, and accompanying Social Workers on home visits to clients. May provide technical direction, training and consultation to others.

  • Performs designated tasks as assigned, including facilitating communications between the client, family and community services and assisting clients in obtaining essential services.
  • Reports and records observations; visits applicants and recipients of social services in homes, hospitals and placement facilities; refers concerns to Social Work or Employment Services Supervisor.
  • Answers informational and referral services telephone calls from Social Workers and Employment Case Managers and the general public.
  • Performs case maintenance functions; organizes files; mails correspondence; updates database; generates and processes a variety of legal documents and other related materials.
  • Interviews clients to obtain needed data and verify data; interviews family, relatives, and other parties to obtain and verify specific information regarding the case.
  • Screens information for accuracy; requests required documents; verifies and validates data.
  • Assists clients in accessing community services, particularly medical, legal and employment services.
  • Communicates policies, rules, and regulations of the program to clients and others within the scope of responsibility.
  • Performs a variety of administrative support functions for the department.
  • Supervises visits with parents and children, documents events, and may provide childcare in the Children’s Service’s offices.
  • Transports adults and children to appointments using age appropriate car seats and/or restraints.
  • Assists parties in the completion of forms; searches files and other documents for required and relevant information.
  • Supports the relationship between Butte County and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and other employees.
  • Adheres to the standards of the Privacy Act of 1974, {U.S.C. § 552A} as amended; maintains and enforces all aspects of confidentiality of client information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • State, County and department policies, procedures and professional rules of conduct.
  • Social work goals, methods, practices and procedures; basic social service needs of individuals and families.
  • Case management methods, practices and procedures for assigned client population.
  • Local community resources and various community services programs.


Ability To:

  • Interact with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Review, update and maintain files, reports and documentation.
  • Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, other county employees and representatives from other city, county, state and federal agencies.
  • Operate a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.


Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Bachelor's degree in Social Work or Behavioral Sciences;

OR
High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate and one (1) year of work experience providing direct services to adults, children and/or families in a public or private social services agency.

Upcoming graduates may supply a letter from their attending university stating impending graduation date of their degree program and verification of credits needed for graduation, which will allow placement on list of eligibles. Actual hiring of position will not occur until after graduation date.

Internship from an accredited college or university within the Behavioral or Social Services field, upon completion of 2 semesters, may be substituted for 6 months of work experience required;
OR 2 semesters in a public child or adult protective services agency may be substituted for 1 year of work experience required.


Certifications and Licenses:

Must possess a valid US driver’s license upon date of application. Must obtain California driver’s license following hire date per California DMV regulations.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and visit various County sites; primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required; occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information; ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects up to 40 pounds.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, drugs, and infectious and communicable diseases.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are various home and office settings; involves the potential for exposure to hostile situations; some non-standard work hours are required.
  • Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.


EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS UTILIZED

  • Equipment utilized includes personal computer, fax machine, and standard office equipment.


Disaster Service Worker

All Butte County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
