Endorsement in the area of school psychology

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Services

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Director of Student Programs
JOB GOAL: To enable students with special needs to derive the fullest possible educational experience from school by promoting their sense of self through a program of psychological diagnosis and therapy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9.5 month year
Salary and work year to be established by the Board
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Personnel Evaluation policy
Essential Functions
  • Provides school psychological services which assist families and professionals in the identification, planning and referral of students with psychological needs
  • Evaluates students to determine verification of handicapping conditions
  • Functions as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team by providing evaluation information, educational needs, and recommendations
  • Provides support in IEP development by:
  • providing psychoeducational data and interpretation
  • assisting in developing behavioral management and learning programs, and
  • consulting with teachers, support personnel and parents in working with students with disabilities
  • Serves as a liason to parent support groups, medical personnel and mental health agencies as they pertain to students with special needs
  • Provides consultation to families, teachers and other staff regarding the learning problems, learning style and/or behavior problems of individual children
  • Provides consultation to teachers and other staff regarding classroom learning environment and/or management in general
  • Conducts individual assessments to help determine eligibility of children for special education services and to determine needs of the child as part of the IEP team
  • Consults with school personnel in the coordination and development of crisis intervention programs
  • Provided individual support and inservice to students, parents, school and support personnel as appropriate to further the job goal
  • Remains current with professional training and shows evidence of professional growth
  • Performs other duties and functions as requested by the Director of Special Education of the Norfolk Public Schools
  • Meets regularly with guidance personnel as necessary

  • Exceptional abilities in oral and written communications
  • Ability to establish and maintain working personal relationships
  • Exceptional decision making skills
