The City of Napa has two openings for Park Maintenance Worker I on the Urban Forestry & Parks Crews. You will maintain grounds, trees, medians, and facilities; performing tree maintenance, trimming and edging, pruning, spraying, watering, weeding, cleaning, debris removal, and overall tree & park maintenance.

Our Parks and Recreation Services Team provides a variety of services for our community and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a wide array of parks and recreation areas within 955 acres; including 55 parks, 26 miles of trails, an urban forest consisting of 35,000 trees, and several public facilities.

PERFORMANCE EXAM IS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR
Wednesday, June 12, 2024
During the Performance Exam, you will be asked to perform a variety of tasks related to this role, such as interacting with tools and equipment that we use on a daily basis.
You will have shown success in demonstrating:

  • Planning and Organizing
    - Establishes a course of action to ensure work is completed efficiently through prioritizing, using resources, and staying focused.
  • Decision Making - Identifies and understands issues, problems, and opportunities; compares information from different sources to draw conclusions and develop appropriate solutions.
  • Safety Focus - Knows conditions that affect the team or self under normal conditions and conditions that occur in crisis situations; skilled in identifying conditions that might cause hazards.
  • Adaptability - Maintains efficiency when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusts effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures; adapts quickly to change and easily considers new approaches.
  • Interpersonal Communications - Develops and maintains effective relationships with others; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and in different situations; shows understanding, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness.
This recruitment and examination is being conducted to fill two (2) full-time vacancies and may be used to fill future similar full-time vacancies as they occur during the active status of the employment list.The active status of this employment list will be at least six (6) months unless abolished sooner or extended beyond that date in accordance with the Civil Service Rules.

SELECTION PROCESS
The City of Napa utilizes a Civil Service Selection System founded on merit. Such a system is competitive and based on broad outreach efforts and equal opportunity for qualified applicants to take part in a process designed to determine the qualifications, fitness and ability of competitors to perform duties of the vacant position. What happens next?
