- Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices
- Turn or stir foods to ensure even cooking
- Ensures day dot procedures are in place: follows First in First Out
- Know, understand and enforce the use of the “Start Fresh” program when necessary
- Season and cook food according to recipes
- Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils
- Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters
- Regulate temperatures of foods
- Substitute for or assist other cooks during emergencies or rush periods
- Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare them for consumption
- All other duties as assigned
- Must understand, read, write and speak the English language
- Must be at least 17 years old
- Must be able to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers
- Must have the ability to work days, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to understand and follow a number of simple recipes and cooking technique procedures in written and oral form
- Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals
- Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure
- Must feel comfortable safely handling basic kitchen utensils such as knives
- High school diploma or educational equivalent preferred
- Minimum of 6 months of cooking experience in at a restaurant or fast food location required
