Hiring Range: Building Inspector I: $50,129 - $60,155
Building Inspector II: $54,139 - $64,967
Building Inspector III: $60,831-$72,997
Starting Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications.
Department: Community Development, Division of Building Inspections
Closing Date: Open until filled with initial review of applications beginning 6-17-2024.
Description of Work: Performs responsible professional work in inspecting buildings to ensure compliance with building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes for the County in process of construction or alteration, and new and existing residences and other structures for conformance with safety codes. Inspections may require some physical effort performed under hazards present in dealing with construction work in progress. The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions and extremely hot and cold temperatures. Requires considerable knowledge of State and local ordinances and codes related to the four building construction trades. Also requires considerable knowledge of modern practices and materials used in the installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of a variety of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical equipment, appliances and fixtures. This position requires substantial interaction, communication and code clarification with members of the public, homeowners, builders and various contractors concerning the building process and specific requirements. Considerable friendliness and tact are crucial for success in this role within Burke County. Experience with computers systems, email, digital record keeping, and using equipment provided by Burke County are a component of the job. The position is eligible for access and use of a take-home county vehicle for the performance of job duties.
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Graduation from high school and several years of construction trades experience, related construction trades program and/ or related construction inspection experience which provides the required knowledge and skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
