GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Healthy Living Director is responsible for overseeing the Healthy Lifestyles Department including our evidence based chronic disease prevention programs (EBCDPP), group exercise program, personal training and member engagement programs.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
- Build positive relationships with members and act as a health educator
- Responsible for hiring, training and supervision of all Healthy Lifestyles staff
- Develop and implement new wellness programs designed to increase retention and attract new members while working with the Membership Department & Communications Coordinator to market those programs
- Build and promote our Diabetes Wellness and LIVESTRONG at the YMCA programs.
- Develop strong referral relationships with local health care providers, participating in regular meetings with community health leaders, and maintaining relationships with various off-site program delivery locations in Middlesex County
- Develop new relationships with community partners to help kick start new health initiatives
- Manage the personal training program and successfully develop strategies to grow
- Manage Group Exercise program
- Train your own PT clients and teach group exercise classes and sub when needed.
- Work closely with the Health & Fitness Maintenance Coordinator to supervise equipment, do regular inventories and purchase new equipment and ensure timely maintenance of equipment
- Proactively communicate with staff and members. Respond in a timely manner to all member inquiries, comments and/or complaints.
- Participate in Leadership/Management Team meetings and activities.
- Actively participate in the annual campaign & other fund and friend raising events as directed by the CEO.
- Participate in meetings and activities of the Board of Managers and/or committees as directed, including participation in fund raising campaigns.
- Participate in weekly tour duty and biweekly Building Coverage.
- Positively represent the YMCA and maintain relationships with professional and community organizations/agencies.
- Participate in workshops, conferences, etc. that will enhance personal and professional growth.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS:
- A level of member satisfaction as reflected in member retention, member surveys and other measurement tools
- A high level of service in all of our Healthy Lifestyles programs
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Exercise Science, Health Education or Public Health preferred
- Minimum of 5 years working in the health & fitness field
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
- REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Current Group Exercise and/or Personal Training certifications
- Must maintain CPR/AED certifications
- LIVESTRONG at the YMCA training/experience is highly desirable
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW:
- Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and supervisory skills
- Understand the relationship of the general public to the association, of staff to volunteer, and of staff to staff, and be able to effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
- Ability to interpret, carry out & implement into classes/programs, the mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Ability to supervise staff & volunteers while actively handling a variety of functions at the same time.
- Work as an integral member of a staff team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with adults, youth, teens, seniors and special populations.
- Computer literate.
