Debbie’s Downtown Doggie Daycare in Meadville, PA is looking for dog handlers to join our team. Working in a dog daycare facility is a serious job. We do not sit around and play with dogs all day. It can be hard work and sometimes stressful, but it also is very rewarding and face it… fun! Safety of the dogs is number one priority! As a handler you are responsible for the supervision, control and management of daycare dogs and ensuring the safety of the playgroup. Maintaining and facilitating safe and fun play in a off leash setting. Our goal is to have our dogs get plenty of socialization and exercise, both physically and mentally. Employee’s are also responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of the play area as well as other areas of the facility as assigned. Responsibilities will vary based on the current needs of the facility. 

We are seeking candidates who are on time, reliable, professional and respectful. Can communicate behavioral issues and/or health issues to the pet parent in a tasteful and respectful manner. Can multitask, maintain your cool, and keep a positive attitude in a sometimes fast paced, stressful environment. Can work together and communicate with co-workers any dog issues that may arise. Be self-motivated, have a desire to learn through reading and observations and follow instructions. Ability to get to know all dogs names and personalities. Have general knowledge of breeds and body language. Can not be afraid of any breed. Ability to remain calm but assertive.

Qualifications

•Must be at least 18 years of age

•Ability to lift 50 lbs with no restrictions 

•Ability to stand for long periods of time and be physically active throughout the shift (bending, walking, lifting, crouching) this is a physically demanding job

•Ability to be fast on your feet

•Time management and organizational skills

•Able to communicate proficiently to pet parent any issues/concerns of the day

•Good with different aspects of social media, photography and creativity a plus

•Able to work open or close shift, Monday through Friday

Responsibilities

•Maintain visual observation of dogs at all times

•Spread attention and play among all dogs

•Interact with dogs using appropriate toys and tools to ensure safe levels of play and minimizing stress levels of all dogs

•Control level of play by following procedures as instructed 

•Use proper dog handling techniques as instructed 

•Use proper dog introduction procedures 

•Use appropriate praise and dog corrections 

•Know all dogs in playgroup and be able to identify them

•Watch new dogs carefully and consult with management if you have concerns

•For all dogs, report any unusual behavior or eliminations and injuries to management immediately 

•Assist in trimming dogs nails

•Administer medication if needed

•Ensure that all staff that relive you for shift change know all the dogs and any unusual behaviors or concerns you have been managing during your shift

•Review information on the schedule and any notes from the day

•Greet and welcome clients in a friendly professional manner 

•Run cash register, keep track of payments

•Answer phones and any questions about hours, pricing, requirements etc

•Schedule dogs 

•Clean, sanitize and disinfect 

General duties 

•Cleaning up after dogs; urine, poop, diarrhea, vomit

•Mopping and vacuuming floors

•Cleaning play equipment 

•Washing toys, water and food bowls

•Empty trash 

•Disinfect and sanitize inside and out

•Change and launder bedding, sheets etc

•Clean employee restroom
