Overview:
We are seeking an individual to join our team as a 1:1 staff person. As such, you will play a crucial role in providing essential care and support to an individual in need and work closely with other team members.

Responsibilities:
- Provide companionship and emotional support to this client in multiple settings including a home setting, and a day program setting that includes outings into the community
- Flexibility with regard to a work schedule that is a couple of hours initially, on weekday mornings with the possibility of increasing over time. That means you accept that this is a part time job with very few hours at first but with the possibility of increasing the hours over time depending on your success in making a connection with the client, proficiency in the application of your training in applied behavior analysis, and your ability to work in a day program setting where you need to cooperate with day program supervision and staff

-Valid driver's license, an insured vehicle, and a clean driving record
- Experience in direct care for a person with an intellectual disability like autism is helpful
- Energetic with an ability to be physically active and enjoy activities in a home setting such as baking, doing a puzzle cooperatively, or out in the community bowling, roller skating, shopping, walking, etc.
- Self-control; the ability to communicate with the client using very few words and with a calm demeanor
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with client and her family members.

The right candidate will provide companionship for a young adult woman with autism. You will receive behavioral training on the job, initially in the home. Eventually this position will include being in a day program setting and eventually accompanying the client 1:1 out into the community on outings provided by the day program such as bowling, to the library, bookstores, coffee and ice cream shops, etc. You will be solely responsible for her safety as well as for making sure she is able to engage the activity being provided.

The client is 32 years old but she does not function emotionally or psychologically as an adult. She is profoundly disabled her ability to use language expressively, but she loves people, loves to go places and do things, and she needs a friend.

The hours for this job are part time, 2-3 hour shifts on 4-5 days per week. Later the hours may include a weekend shift on a Saturday morning or a Sunday afternoon.

Consumer Directions is the fiscal agency that manages funding for this employment through Ramsey County under the Consumer Directed Community Supports program. The program offers paid time off and the application and hiring process is through Ramsey County . The process includes a background check.
