Backside Learning Center is Hiring a Director of Development Near Louisville, KY

Summary of Position

Reporting to the executive director, the director of development works to ensure the establishment of the organization's philosophy of giving, and the establishment of systems and processes that ensure sustainable fund development. This position creates the BLC fund development plan and directs and manages the execution of the plan. At the BLC, fund development elements include working with the executive director to implement strategies for donor identification, acquisition, and stewardship, capital campaigns, annual giving, major gifts from individuals and corporations, planned giving and strategic leadership and oversight of signature events.

Responsibilities

· Ensures establishment of a diverse donor base of individual, corporate, and public segments resulting in dollars raised for the organization.

· Establishes and implements short and long-range development strategies, goals, and objectives in conjunction with the ED to meet the annual budget.

· Proactively ensures that the organization develops strong long-term relationships with large scale individuals, foundations and corporate donors/funders. Personally builds and maintains key relationships to ensure fund development goals are achieved.

· Assists in the establishment of cultivation metrics for key individuals and community partners, which will move the organization forward and meet the fund development goals.

· Oversees fundraising activities to support the fund development goals.

· Ensures meaningful and effective partnerships with key public and private sector entities to reinforce the organization’s community impact.

· Assures effective collaboration and integration of fundraising efforts with marketing/communications strategies and appropriate staff leadership.

· Supervises grant development and actively coordinates with the ED and program staff to ensure mission integrity on federal, state, foundation and corporate grants.

· Acts as the staff liaison with the Board’s Development Committee. Assists the Chair of the Development Committee in navigating the organizational and donor landscape of BLC.

· Serves as an active, engaged and strategic member of the BLC leadership team.

The individual is expected to:

· Meet the annual fund development goal of the organization.

· Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the position.

· Demonstrate initiative and work as a team player.

· Adhere to the highest ethical standards in management, governance, and fund development ethics and practices. Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding the organization and the not-for-profit sector.

· Demonstrate commitment to continued professional growth and development.

· Translate broad goals into achievable steps.

· Help set and manage appropriate expectations.

· Handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid yet sound decisions regarding management and development issues.

· Plan and implement highly successful strategies that meet or exceed established goals.

· Establish strong and appropriate relationships with the ED, staff, governing board, volunteers, donors and the community.

· Together with the ED and the Board Chair, provide media representation for the organization.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years’ fundraising experience in a professional position with demonstrated results.

Must be committed to the mission and strategic direction of the organization.

Must be committed to donor centered relationships and stewardship.

Must have a valid driver’s license and continuous availability of an automobile.

Must be able to work flexible schedules (evenings and weekends when needed).

Must have computer skills in Windows environment, Microsoft Office Suite programs, Excel, Power Point, and donor software management.

Comprehensive leadership/management skills and experience are required including but not limited to:

· Visionary, strategic and tactical planning

· Effective leadership, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff, board members, donors and community partners

· Strong oral and written communication skills

· Strong presentation skills, and high degree of comfort and successful track record in making requests for contributions

· Budget and personnel management

· Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and producing charitable contributions

Knowledge and experience in the following areas required:

· The nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, donor research and cultivation practices.

· Experience working with a Board of Directors.

· Standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, direct mail, gift processing, reporting and effective use of prospects and donor historical data.

Compensation: Annual Salary $58,000-$65,000
