Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital currently has a position available for an Billing Technician.

Job Summary:

The Billing Technician will assist the Billing department. This position will cross-train with other billing positions and help support the team by doing appeals and collections.

A. Billing

• Ensures patient information including insurance is accurate and complete
• Prepares, reviews, and transmits claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim
• processing
• Develops and monitors internal communication reports
• Obtains Authorizations (TARs, SARS or insurance authorizations)
• Obtains information for billing from Subacute (daily status change record), Acute (admission and discharges), and Circlebrook
• Obtains supplemental therapy information from invoice by patient
• Obtains supplemental vent weaning paperwork from Director of Respiratory
• Ensures efficient billing and tracking of billing information
• Files and maintains organized documentation of all billing and records

B. Collections:

• Develops and maintains a tracking system of incoming and late payments
• Tracks aging and works to obtain all collections within 120 days
• Researches and appeals denied claims
• Prepares appeals and CIFs as needed
• Informs management of unusual problems and tracks the efforts for collection problems

C. Outpatient Therapy Scheduling:

• Obtains authorization for treatment
• Obtains Therapy availability
• Schedules patient for consistent times and days
• Ensures patients are informed of the scheduled therapy time by calling a day prior to appointment
• Tracks missed/no show appointments
• Sends certified letters to patients (canceling patient or putting patient on ad hoc call list)

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Minimum of two (2) years as a biller in an acute care facility
• Strong understanding of healthcare insurance billing procedures and claims appeal
• Proficient in ICD-9-CM and CPT codding principles preferred
• Must possess good work ethics and a professional image at all times
• Knowledge of CMS conditions of participation, CDPH state regulations, CCS, and TJC (hospital, nursing care center, and laboratory) accreditation requirements as applicable to job
• Working knowledge of computer and software applications as applicable to job (i.e. Excel, Word)
• Possess strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
• Works responsibly in a team environment as well as independently
• Manages confidential information effectively and appropriately
• Organized and has the ability to keep track of large amounts of data
