Salary Range: $29.69/hr – $33.54/hr

SummaryUnder the supervision and direction of the Head Horticulturist, the Assistant Horticulturist assists with the planning, organization and supervision of the Barber & Oberwortmann Hortictultural Center and Bird Haven Greenhouse.

- Assist with the care of plants including watering, planting, transplanting, preparation of beds and potting materials, and pest and weed control
- Assist with the care, planning, and setup of showroom, conservatories, and garden areas
- Facilitate daily operations and upkeep of the greenhouse and conservatories
- Supervise and assist in the development in programming for school visits and other community-facing events
- Regularly interact with the public and facility patrons through in-person, telephone, and email contact
- Assist in preparing spaces for events, such as setting up chairs, tables, and other materials as needed
- Available to answer plant questions in person or by phone/email
- Perform all other related activities and duties as assigned.

Work EnvironmentWorking environment is exposure to high temperatures in greenhouses, also exposure to outdoor weather conditions and toxic chemicals.

Education And ExperienceDegree in Horticulture or similar required
Additional Eligibility RequirementsMust be an adult at least 21 years of age
CPR and AED certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days
Valid Illinois driver’s license
