City of Lenexa is Hiring an Assistant Dive Coach Near Lenexa, KS

Come make a splash in Lenexa! The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for Assistant Dive Coaches with the Lenexa Lazers team within the Parks and Recreation Department. Gain valuable customer service and team-oriented skills while serving our community primarily at Sar-Ko Par Aquatic Center.

Sar-Ko Par Aquatic Center (87th & Greenway Lane)

Lazer Swim and Dive season: Mid May through mid July.

Hours:

Monday - Friday: Morning practice

Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays: Swim and dive meets

Position Summary

This position is responsible for day-to-day instruction and operation of the Lenexa Lazers Dive Team. Assistant Coaches support the plan and direction of the Head Dive Coach, assist with practices and meets, demonstrate techniques, analyze performance, instruct participants, attend parent meetings and functions, and coordinate with participants and families. This position maintains and improves the Lazers Dive Team program, while creating and maintaining public awareness, resolving participant and patron issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitors, instructs and evaluates participants for safety and development. Organizes, leads and handles multiple participants at one time. Models dive techniques in and out of the water. Develops and implements instruction plans, daily practices and meet process as needed.
  • Exhibits a high degree of customer service skills and positive attitude with staff and customers at all times, and creates and maintains good public relations. Observes and aides in communication and enforcement of policies and procedures to staff and the public to promote safety. Resolves sensitive, significant and controversial issues from personnel and patrons, while promoting friendly and courteous attitudes. Works with participants for quality assurance and needs assessment.
  • Ensures safe environment for staff and patrons. Displays the knowledge and ability to initiate and perform the Emergency Action Plan, including all procedures and skills as necessary.
  • Complies with, and promotes, safety and sanitary regulations according to federal, state, county, local and organizational requirements. Maintains pool cleanliness. Maintains equipment and supplies in proper working order, in an orderly, clean manner.
  • Completes daily attendance and daily logs accurately and on time, as required.
  • Attends parent meetings and functions before, during, and post season.

Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Complies with all City ordinances and policies.
  • Assists other employees and performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
  • Performs minor maintenance on equipment or notifies maintenance personnel of emergencies and equipment failures.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the phone and questions, running errands, picking up supplies, making arrangements for rental and aquatic use, helping set up for practices, home meets, etc.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum: Must be at least 17 years of age. CPR/AED certification required from a nationally recognized agency, or ability to complete CPR course through Lenexa.

Desired: Previous experience in competitive diving and coaching. Lifeguard Instructor and/or Waterpark Instructor certifications, Water Safety Instructor, and Blood Borne Pathogens certification. USA Swimming Coach certification.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledgeof recreational activities, and equipment.

Skill in:

  • Must be able to perform lifesaving techniques and skills in emergency situations and in training.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regulating personnel issues.
  • Employee must possess good public relations, supervisory, organizational, financial, verbal and written communication skills.

Rate of pay: Starting pay is $15.50 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. City residency not required. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of pre-employment drug screen, physical and background check.
