Job Summary

Instructional Support Assistants are responsible for providing academic support to the students, faculty and staff to help them become independent learners and achieve academic success.
Responsible for demonstrating LSSC’s values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Tutors and provides general assistance to students and community patrons in an atmosphere conducive to learning. Tutoring includes on-line, face-to-face, and group sessions.
• Mentors peer assistants.
• Continually improve knowledge of subject area(s) and tutoring skills.
• Assists or attends workshops and seminars for students, faculty, and staff.
• Encourages students and community patrons to develop confidence and become independent learners.
• Maintains work confidentiality.
• Encourages students to develop confidence and to become more independent learners.
• Maintains an attitude and environment conducive to learning.
• Follows all rules, guidelines, and procedures.
• Maintains and submit accurate time sheets.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in subject(s) content area. For Math Tutoring, specific coursework in Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, or higher-level math.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5
• Grade of A or B in tutoring subject area(s)
• Two recommendations demonstrating work experience.
• 1-3 years teaching or tutoring, preferably in subject area or no educational experience with a bachelor's degree described above.
