New Mexico Highlands University is Hiring an Associate Dean of Education Near Las Vegas, NM

New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU), a Hispanic Serving Institution in Northern New Mexico, seeks a visionary leader with an innovative spirit for the position of Associate Dean (50%)/Professor or Associate Professor (50%) of the School of Education. The Associate Dean serves under the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer, the Dean of the School of Education, at NMHU. The Associate Dean assists the Dean of the School of Education in leading faculty and staff in hiring, annual evaluations, recommendations for reappointment, promotion and tenure decisions, and post-tenure review. This is a 12 month position.
New Mexico Highlands University’s School of Education provides programs to prepare educators as well as professionals in: Teacher Education (Early Childhood Multicultural Education, Elementary Education, and Secondary Education); Special Education; Curriculum and Instruction (Bilingual Education, ESL, Reading, and Alternative Licensure); Educational Leadership (Licensure and Non-Licensure), and Counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling).
The candidate will have experience and skills to assist the Dean in advancing the School of Education and P-12 education in the State of New Mexico to include wraparound and mental health programming.
The Associate Dean reports directly to the Dean at the School of Education.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages and oversees the establishment and administration of contractual arrangements with Faculty and other School of Education contracts.
  • Manages scheduling and coordination of support staff and Per Course Faculty. Oversees Faculty workloads to ensure SOE operational efficiency. Makes recommendations to the Dean of SOE regarding personnel appointments and re-appointments, promotions, and staff evaluations.
  • Manages supervision of personnel associated with the organizational responsibilities of this position; recommends hiring, training, performance evaluation, work allocation, and problem solving, makes recommendations regarding delegation and execution of duties within these units/departments.
  • Directs internal departments of the division with all aspects of Faculty administration.
  • Represents School of Education/New Mexico Highlands University at Administrative Academic Affairs Meetings; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Education.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION:
  • A terminal degree in one of the academic disciplines with the School of Education from a regionally accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Is Tenured and holds the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor.
  • Possess a record of academic achievement in teaching, scholarship, service and/or experience warranting the rank of Associate Dean and tenure at NMHU.
  • Experience with Higher Education or P-12 administration.

  • Has an outstanding record of academic leadership.
  • Has demonstrated success with Strategic Planning.
  • Has demonstrated a record of commitment to excellence in teaching and research.
  • Demonstrated achievement in the promotion of diversity, affirmative action and equal opportunity.
  • Evidence of instituting programs that improve retention, graduation, and enrollment.
  • Experience with developmental education issues and experience with distance delivery programs.
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment supporting faculty and students.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Candidate should have knowledge, training, and experience with national accreditation.
  • Will demonstrate attention to detail with respect to ongoing assessment, accreditation, and the meaningful use of data for program improvement.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources concepts, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles, techniques, systems, and standards.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Employee development and performance management skills.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long range goals.
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Knowledge of and understanding NMHU procedures and policies.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with Faculty, Staff, and students.
  • Have strong listening skills and mediation experience.
  • Possess effective teambuilding skills and experience.
