Gulf Coast Social Services is currently seeking an experienced Clinic Medical Assistant for the South-Central Louisiana Human Services Authority River Parishes Behavorial Health Center in LaPlace.

The Clinic Medical Assistant functions as a Medical Assistant to the Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the primary care program of the SCLHSA. The position will accompany the APRN to scheduled visits at the various clinic sites on a rotating basis.

Essential Job Functions:

• Greets patiens, updates files and medical records, assist with collecting and handling insurance and laboratory forms/ results, manages messages and routine correspondence, schedues appointment and arranges other levels of care.
• Collects co-pays and maintains records of funds received.
• Collects and enters patient registration data into the Electonic health records system and maintains patient records according to SCLHSA policies and procedures.
• Prepares patients for examinations, which include obtaining, assisting and record vital signs.
• Assists practitioner to deliver health care services, treatments, examinations and procedures for patients.
• Collects samples of blood and urine and preforms vision and audio testing as needed.
• Ensures examination areas are fully stocked, organized, cleaned, disinfected and orders supplies, as needed.
• Assist with cleaning examination areas, as required.
• Provides constant visual monitoring and care for suicidal, combative or agitated patients to ensure the safety and well-being of the patients and document accordingly.

Other Responsibilities:

• Maintain positive relationship with funding and regulatory agencies and community resources.
• Attends and participates in general staff and specialized meetings.
• Performs similar job-related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year experience
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills, the ability to represent the Agency in a highly professional manner and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
• Good judgement, initiative, dependability, sound decision making skills, the ability to handle multiple resposnabilities, strong organizational skills, and time managment skills. The ability to prioritize work and meet multiple deadlines.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and able to work collectively with the administrative team.
• Applicant must pass Criminal Record Background check, LA Motor Vehicle Record Check as well as a Pre-Employment Drug Screening.
• Applicants must have a valid driver's license consistent with Louisiana Law, current auto liability insurance, and have access to a reliable vehicle in a safe operating condition with current inspection sticker.
