Bear Real Estate Group is Hiring an Accountant Near Kenosha, WI

ROLE SUMMARY: Responsible for real estate development and job costing accounting by performing professional-level accounting functions through the month-end close process. Responsible for financial reporting requirements for development and construction projects including review and recording of general contractor financial statements. Works closely with Project Managers (PM) and the finance team to review budgets, financial models, monthly costs, project reconciliation and completion, and manage inventory; participate in team’s regular construction development meetings; coordinate with finance team and lenders, review submission of construction loan draws; provide financial reporting to management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Accounting
  1. Set-up new projects in accounting system; periodic reconciliations
  2. Upload project budgets in accounting system
  3. Review and provide budgets-to-actual costs reports with/to PM
  4. Oversees cash flow for all development project sources
  5. Record, track, and reconcile pre-development loans
  6. Record and reconcile draw reimbursements/project receivables
  7. Prepare and monitor project Work-In-Progress schedules and reports
  8. Record, track and manage asset management fee revenue and developer fee revenue
  9. Ensures funding receipts are deposited and/or transferred as needed to meet the payment obligations for all development projects
  10. Record project financial statement activity from outside partners

  • Legal Entity Accounting
  1. Set-up new legal entity in accounting system
  2. Record assets and liabilities on balance sheet
  3. Review closing documents & book inventory, acquisitions, construction loans, and/or perm loan
  4. Reconcile legal entity costs to the job project costs
  5. Work with finance and legal teams for capital funding
  6. Manage/track land inventory (review and record purchases and sales)
  7. Record and reconcile cash receipts
  8. Determine payment requests have proper authorization, coding, documentation
  9. Request capital contributions and distributions
  10. Review loans, make interest payments when due, manage maturity dates
  11. Provide month financials to PM, finance team, leadership, and ownership
  12. Complete monthly close and related journal entries (using AppFolio and Jonas Premier software)
  • Reporting
  1. Provide ad-hoc reporting to leadership and ownership

  • OTHER
  1. Examine, document, and analyze existing policies and procedures, researching alternative opportunities, developing more effective and efficient processes.
  2. Assist Controller as necessary with routine general ledger close and account reconciliation functions

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college/university (accounting, finance)

5 years related experience

Above average Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word

Ability to handle daily responsibilities and projects with minimal direction

Must be pro‐active in identifying and proposing solutions

Must have ability to assimilate a variety of information from various individuals, and make decisions from which a precedent may not exist

Excellent written and oral communication skills; drives clear direction

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Ability to manage priorities and workflow while maintaining diligence

Ability to work independently and as a member of team dynamic

Exposure to variety of software (MSFT Office/Teams, Jonas, AppFolio, DocuSign, Adobe, etc.)
