The Center for Labor Education and Research at the University of Hawai‘i - West O‘ahu seeks to fill a full time, tenure track position in labor economics, with an emphasis on one or more of the following economic issues: public and private sector collective bargaining, labor contract costing, union auditing, wage analysis, prevailing wages, and cost of living. We welcome scholars with interdisciplinary training and research experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develop, coordinate, and teach credit courses in the labor studies program.
  2. Advise undergraduate students and coordinate labor studies practicum and research projects.
  3. Conduct labor-related research projects, surveys, and legislative analysis.
  4. Conduct non-credit workshops, courses, and seminars in labor economics and labor education related topics as part of a statewide labor education program. 
  5. Collaborate and contribute to the writing and editing of Center publications.
  6. Travel throughout the state as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. in Economics, or related field by August 1, 2024. ABDs will be considered only if all degree requirements will be met before August 1, 2024. ABDs must submit a letter from their committee chair attesting that the dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed prior to the date of hire. 
  2. At least 2 years work experience as an economist in either teaching, research, or statistical analysis. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and speaking.
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience doing economic analysis for a labor-related organization.
  2. Experience with labor contracts.
  3. Experience research in labor economics or labor law and economics. 
  4. Familiarity with state and national labor laws and collective bargaining
  5. Interdisciplinary training and research experience.
  6. Commitment to, knowledge of, and/or experience with the mission and purpose of the University of Hawai‘i to position the university as a leading indigenous-serving higher education institution.
