University of Alaska - External Careers is Hiring a Payroll Technician Near Juneau, AK

The University of Alaska is seeking to hire a diligent and accurate Payroll Technician to support our payroll function. You will be responsible for all the data entry related to the payroll process, and must ensure the tasks are performed on time and are accurate. The Payroll Department supports around 6,000 employees, where the team works collaboratively to successfully process bi-weekly payrolls.

As our Payroll Technician, you’ll help ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for employees across the UA system. This includes calculating, verifying and deducting appropriate payroll deductions including tax withholdings, benefits elections, and other garnishments. In this role we’ll rely on you to research and resolve any pay or tax-related discrepancies or inquiries. To thrive in this role, you will need to be detail oriented and committed to excellence. You will need to have a solid understanding of payroll procedures, rules and regulations, coupled with analytical and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent. The position requires some college coursework in accounting or human resources and one year of technical human resources experience in payroll related activities, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. An eagerness to learn specific processes and systems is highly desired.

Position Details:

This is a full-time, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Hybrid and remote work arrangements may be considered for applicants located in the Anchorage, Fairbanks or Juneau areas. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 76, based on education and experience.
