Title: Career Coordinator (Part-Time, Temporary)
Institution: Jackson State Community College
Job SummaryThis is a Part-time, Professional Technical grant-funded position. The Career Coordinator will provide wraparound support services to students with the goal of increasing retention and completion through monitoring and intervention, with a special focus on students within the Medical Coding Program. The Career Coordinator will report to the Grant’s Principal Investigator and collaborate with other administrative staff and faculty to oversee the grant’s effectiveness in meeting the needs of students.
Job Duties
  • 95% -
  • Identify students at risk of attrition based on data and reach out for triage and recommendation of interventions based on individual student need
  • Make connections to student support services, academic advisors, academic support services, and community resources as needed by students
  • Develop individualized pathways to degree with students in concert with academic advisors
  • Actively reach out to students who deviate from their pathway for guidance, advice, and connection to resources
  • Work with faculty to monitor the progress of assigned students
  • Ensure students are meeting with their faculty advisor to prepare their pathway plan to graduation
  • Work with the Grant’s Principal Investigator collect, analyze and effectively utilize retention and completion data to report and improve the delivery of service
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with community partners and work with high school counselors and administrators to promote program requirements
  • Assist with the maintenance of records for assigned students
  • Assist in the growth and development of the medical coding program
  • Participate in student advising, recruitment, and retention - (Essential)

Minimum QualificationsPossession of an associate's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in higher education involving programs
Preferred QualificationsPossession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience in higher education involving healthcare programs and services that increase enrollment, retention, and graduation.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of college organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and proficiency in computers, especially Microsoft Office applications
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make proper referrals
  • Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative and responsibility for scheduling individual sessions with students
  • Ability to asses and provide recommendations for additional assistance as needed for student well-being
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relations on and off campus.
Pay Rate: $23 per hour
Schedule/Hours: No more than 29 hours may be worked per week (hours depend on budget availability and need). Hours are scheduled around class schedule between normal business hours of 8:00 to 4:30.
