Job Summary

The Division of Student Affairs at Lane College is looking for an experienced, caring, and committed professional to provide individual and group counseling services and assist with the College's support services for students with disabilities.

Under the supervision of the Director of Counseling/Disability Support Services the College Counselor will provide a broad range of counseling and psychological services to students including diagnostic assessment and evaluation, individual mental health counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach programming and training. The College Counselor will provide workshops/training on general mental health issues, relationship issues, and training to the Lane College community. We seek a dedicated individual who is willing to work one-on-one and in group settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide students with confidential individual and group counseling as well as assistance with college resources and services to be academically successful. Assists individuals in understanding and overcoming social, emotional, and developmental issues.
  • Assist the Director of Counseling/Disability Support Services in identifying reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Provide crisis intervention and support, including assessing any potential threats a student may present to him/herself or others.
  • Facilitate programming to promote the development and success of all students.
  • Participates in campus-wide outreach programming and education.
  • Serves on committees as appropriate and as appointed by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required Knowledge and Skills

  • A strong commitment to the mission of Lane College.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the counseling and disability support services functional area and the administration of such functions.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple and complex assignments/projects and maintaining records.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, College employees and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and other groups.
  • Experience of working effectively in a team environment with a student development focus.
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and extensive confidential data.
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to lead, instruct, handle a large variety of details and to work with all levels of organization.
  • Proficient in the use of e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and use of the Internet to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
  • High level of energy and good sense of humor with the capacity for extraordinary time and effort demands.
  • May require requires some walking, climbing stairs, sitting long periods of time, lifting up to 15lbs. 10% of the time.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must have a minimum of a Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in counseling and/or disability support services environment.
