Plant Operations Manager

The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing organizational strategies and standards that result in top-notch performance in areas such as safety, productivity, and quality. This role involves collaborating with other leaders throughout the plant to ensure effective operations.

Plant Operations Manager Responsibilities:

  • Communicate strategic direction: Effectively communicate the organization's strategic direction to employees and demonstrate how it aligns with their day-to-day actions and results.
  • Inspire the team: Inspire and motivate the team to achieve results by providing clear direction and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Utilize communication tools: Utilize two-way communication tools to share the organization's strategy and target objectives with employees.
  • Control operational costs: Control operational costs by efficiently managing labor, parts, and equipment utilization.
  • Set performance expectations: Set clear and measurable performance expectations that are aligned with division and corporate goals.
  • Analyze and manage performance metrics: Proactively analyze and manage all relevant operational performance metrics to establish the facility as a flagship operation in the Americas.
  • Oversee annual budget and operations plan: Oversee the development of a comprehensive annual capital budget and operations plan. Initiate timely capital requests to maintain or enhance plant performance to meet customer demands.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental policies: Operate with zero environmental non-conformities in accordance with applicable company, government, and regulatory policies.
  • Improve environmental footprint: Continuously improve plant operations' environmental footprint in line with company goals and community interests.
  • Allocate appropriate resources: Ensure that appropriate resources are allocated to support the business strategy and deliverables.
  • Lead strategic transformation: Demonstrate the ability to lead strategic transformation within the organization.
  • Design and communicate performance expectations: Design and communicate clear and measurable performance expectations. Conduct performance reviews and execute growth, development, and engagement plans.
  • Support TLs and employees: Provide support to Team Leaders and all employees as needed.
  • Function as a member of the leadership team: Act as a member of the plant's leadership team and collaborate with fellow leaders to drive success.
  • Prepare budgets: Prepare budgets related to labor, capital, production, and facility improvements.
  • Lead, coach, and solicit input: Lead, coach, and solicit input from team members to drive successful execution of facility and team goals. Enhance team member engagement and job satisfaction.
  • Align outcomes and expectations: Align critical outcomes for the team, plant, and business to individual performance expectations and accountabilities.
  • Coach, counsel, and train employees: Coach, counsel, and train all employees on plant initiatives and performance expectations.

Cultivates a safe and secure work environment for everyone involved.

  • Demonstrates genuine concern for employees and prioritizes safety in all aspects of the business.
  • Implements measures to ensure the safety of employees during technical operations.
  • Implements a robust measurement system to track safety performance and recognize achievements.
  • Allocates necessary resources and invests in programs to achieve zero injuries.

Plant Operations Manager Requirements:

  • The job requires a Bachelor's Degree with a preference for majors in Engineering, Business, or other related fields. (Master's Degree is preferred but not required)
  • Candidates should have 7 years of progressive technical experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to cross-functional team leadership or participation outside of manufacturing is desired.
  • A history of hiring, growing, and promoting talent within the organization is important.
  • Demonstrated experience of extraordinary operational performance improvement is required.
  • A strong background in Continuous Improvement and Lean manufacturing is necessary.
  • Experience meeting customer demands is expected.
  • The ability to utilize data and data collection systems, as well as Six Sigma methods, for problem-solving and decision-making to eliminate manufacturing losses is required.
  • Candidates should be able to create and implement strategic and operations plans.
  • The ability to accomplish the goals of the business, translate strategies into actionable operating plans, set personal goals, monitor progress, overcome barriers, and adapt plans to ensure goal attainment is important.
  • Some travel, up to 10% of the time, may be required.
