Briarwood Presbyterian Church is Hiring a Financial Assistant Near Jackson, MS

Job Title: Financial Assistant

Reports To: Treasurer/Finance Committee

Work Schedule: Part-Time (Typically one day or week or 8 hours over a week’s time)

Approved By: Personnel Committee

PRIMARY PURPOSE STATEMENT

Position is accountable for all financial functions of the church: accounts receivable, accounts payable, financial records and reports. Work is performed under the general direction of the Church Treasurer and the Financial Subcommittee of the Administration Committee. Reports to the Head of Staff/Pastor on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES--Duties of position include, but are not limited to the following and are ranked in order of importance:

· Manage accounts receivable process

(1) Weekly prepare collections/donation/contribution data for bank deposit, sometimes working with Church members.

(2) Prepare deposit and transport to bank

(3) Report deposit breakdown to Pastor and Church Treasurer.

(4) File Deposit Slip with deposit report.

(5) Post deposit on financial software

(6) Record contributions by giver on OnRealm. Maintain contribution security.

(7) Finance Chair available for guidance/advice

· Maintain accounts payable process

(1) Check invoices and match with receipts, packing slips, etc. Maintain vendor files and update as needed.

(2) Weekly verify cash availability. Post all payments on financial software. Print and sign checks. Attach bottom portion of check to invoice and file. Prepare checks for mailing.

(3) Open mail pertaining to payables or bank and investment accounts

· Maintain and process payroll

(1) Obtain time sheets from employees as needed

(2) Provide required employee time information to outside accounting firm per their requirements. Payroll is distributed via direct deposit.

(3) Maintain file copy of employee payroll check stubs

(4) Maintain copy of tax payments

· Assist outside accounting firm with accounting tasks as needed

· Confer with contributors, committee chairs, pastor, etc., regarding financial matters

(1) Working with outside CPA firm, prepare monthly financials for distribution to Pastor,

Treasurer and Session Members

(2) Send quarterly contribution statements to all contributors via email and paper copy as requested

(3) Advise Finance Committee of pledge totals during annual Stewardship campaign

· Prepare reports as needed

(1) Giving Trends

(2) Benevolences for Annual Report

(3) Endowment payments as requested

· Substitute for Office Secretary when needed

· Perform related or similar duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience/Education Requirements

Specific Requirements & Qualifications Include:

Knowledge

· Knowledge of modern financial methods, practices and procedures

· Knowledge of church’s financial standards & operating procedures

Skills

· Able to read, track and make accurate financial entries into PC and/or transfer from other reports/data

· Able to make accurate math calculations using simple formulas

Abilities

· Able to answer phone calls with a pleasant voice and professional manner

· Able to meet and deal with members and visitors

· Able to follow oral and written directions

· Able to prioritize and make competent decisions while working on multiple tasks

Physical Requirements

· Sedentary work: Will walk, stand & occasionally move light objects found in an office environment

· Vision: Requires ability to perceive and discern objects by eye including: currency, checks forms, records, reports, spreadsheets, financial journals

· Speaking/Hearing: Requires ability to give & receive information through speaking & listening

· Motor coordination: Regularly requires use of fingers and hands to work telephone and computer keyboard

Work environment/conditions

· Office located in church office complex

· Occasionally will be expected to travel to Post Office, bank, CPA’s office or office supply retailer or other locations as necessary to complete financial obligations and at other times as directed by the Head of Staff/Pastor.

Equipment

· Able to use usual office equipment

· Able to use word processing, email, spreadsheet, OnRealm & financial software

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 8 per week
