Description
The Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for the implementation of preschool and recreational gymnastics classes under the direction of the Gymnastics Coordinator. The Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for performing the essential and marginal functions as outlined in this description.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Applicant must be 15 years or older, must have a work permit if under the age of 16 years old. A minimum experience in gymnastics is required. The individual should possess friendly and effective interpersonal, verbal and telephone communication skills. The individual will be expected to obtain First Aid and CPR/AED certifications before the first day of work. Other certifications will be required as deemed necessary.
Hours:
The Gymnastics Instructor is an hourly part-time position. General work hours are approximately 3-20 per week. Work hours vary depending on class offerings, practice schedules and meets duties. Evening and weekend hours are expected due to the nature of the programs under the Gymnastics Coordinator’s direction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for leading specific competitive levels deemed acceptable by the Gymnastics Coordinator.
2. Conduct competitive practices based on the level assigned.
3. Complete safety inspections and maintain a safe and organized gymnastics area and work space.
Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Perform and enforce the rules and guidelines of the District safety program.
2. Assist other areas of the recreation department and district as deemed necessary by the Aquatic and Facility Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, and Executive Director.
3. Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge:
The Gymnastics Instructor must be able to work under the supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator. He or she must be able to work, interact with the general population, including children, adults and staff in a friendly and courteous manner. The individual should be able to work with other staff and participants under stressful situations. He or she should be able to recognize and take appropriate action to correct safety hazards.
Required Competencies:
Must have the ability to read, write and organize materials. Must be able to supervise participants and have safety awareness.
Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions:
The person will be required to be able to lift and turn and carry 40 pounds, and placing this load on shelves at chest height so as to fulfill this requirement. During special events, the individual should be able to work long stretches of time.
