Job Summary

We are a commercial construction company based in Atlanta, GA, seeking a Director of Construction. This role is ideal for candidates with extensive experience in ground-up new construction and site development, particularly in Restaurant, Fuel Station/Convenience Store, and Retail commercial construction projects. The Director of Construction will manage the workload and development of our operations staff within the commercial construction division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project Oversight: Manage, coordinate, and oversee all commercial construction projects within the division.
  • Departmental Leadership: Provide guidance and leadership for all phases of construction projects from start to finish, overseeing daily operations of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team Supervision: Supervise Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Engineers to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Cost Control: Establish and maintain cost control measures in line with company standards, ensuring bottom line profit accountability.
  • Site Visits and Audits: Conduct regular jobsite visits and audits to monitor progress and quality standards.
  • Contract Management: Review contract terms and assist Executive Management in contract negotiations.
  • Scheduling: Ensure adherence to scheduling procedures, including baseline critical path schedules, monthly updates, and two-week lookahead schedules.
  • Project Closeout: Oversee the project closeout process, ensuring all deliverables and deadlines are met.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise qualified construction personnel.
  • Safety Culture: Promote and ensure safety on all jobsites, proactively preventing injuries, environmental hazards, and property losses.
  • Compliance: Ensure jobsite compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs, policies, and regulatory requirements, including client-specific requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Enforce QA/QC standards and ensure onsite QA/QC meetings and inspections are conducted and documented.
  • Policy Adherence: Enforce company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Reporting: Provide timely and accurate reporting to Executive Management, including weekly Work in Progress, Manpower Needs, and monthly financial projections.
  • Performance Evaluation: Ensure compliance with job descriptions and responsibilities, conducting formal employee performance evaluations.
  • Client Relations: Work with the Business Development team to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of ten years in management-level positions within Commercial Construction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred, though equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience managing and completing ground-up commercial construction projects valued between $5-15MM.
  • Strong understanding of construction procedures and project management principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Competent with technology and computer systems.
  • Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Experience with Sage accounting software and Bluebeam is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.
  • Corporate Office position based in GA with nationwide travel up to 10-15%.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Background, pre-employment health screening, and reference checks required.
