Job Description

PROGRAM: Quiet Storm Crisis Triage Living Room

POSITION TITLE: Mental Health Therapist

DEGREE REQ.: Master’s Level

REPORTS TO: Program Director

JOB TYPE: Full-Time

Quiet Storm Crisis Triage; The Living Room is a crisis respite center in the Hazel Crest community offering free and confidential services for anyone going through a mental health crisis. We aim to reduce unnecessary hospitalizations and arrests and provide a safe, home-like environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree required in social work or related human service field.
  • Must be experienced in at least two of the following therapeutic services: psychotherapy, substance abuse, crisis management, psycho-education, and prevention techniques.
  • Must have 4 years work experience in a non-profit setting and treatment environment.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, software applications, and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; willingness to learn EHR.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides comprehensive mental health assessments, treatment plans, and therapeutic treatments for Guests.
  • Assess clients using MH/LOCUS Assessment and IM CANS to recommend Guests into the proper level of care.
  • Determines a Guest’s appropriateness for services using the DSM-V.
  • Complies with Medicaid Rule 132 and Rule 140 documentation requirements (e.g. assessments, treatment plans, treatment procedures, progress note, and discharge summaries); and in the preparation of required reports.
  • Maintains a confidential, accurate, organized, and updated case file for each assigned Guest. Adheres to documentation deadlines as outlined in the Medicaid Mental Health Center.
  • Participate on the Interdisciplinary Team for Care Plan Development which is composed of individuals who work together meet the physical, medical, psychosocial, emotional, and therapeutic needs of the agency’s clients.
  • Coordinate care and treatment decisions with each Guest to ensure that each Guest’s needs are assessed and to ensure that the active treatment plan is implemented as indicated.
  • Must have excellent chart documentation and organization skills.
  • Must be willing to adhere to the Counselor’s Code of Ethics and demonstrate a positive attitude regarding trauma informed care.
  • Must have the ability to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population.
  • Must have ability to de-escalate potential volatile situations between Guests when necessary utilizing cognitive-based intervention strategies.
  • Must be able to use appropriate forms and electronic health records system to access

Guest’s records and assess strengths and weaknesses developed with the Guest’s participation in treatment planning to address identified problems.

  • Will handle guest assessments for The Living Room, monitor and supervise the program facility, in person and on call.

LIVING ROOM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Immediately following a Guest Welcome by a Recovery Support Specialist, a harm/risk assessment screen for suicide and homicidal risk will be conducted by a QMHP clinician.
  • At the point of First Responder Drop Off, consult with the Triage Diversion Coordinator to gather information from first responders and determine in the crisis response centers appropriateness to address an individual crisis (example of inappropriate active psychosis, is suicidal or harmful to others.
  • At the conclusion of Living Room services, if requested, Guests can begin the warm handoff process of case management for individual community support and engagement in individual clinical therapy.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:

Receive mandatory initial Living Room Program training by:

  • Completing a two-hour DMH video-based training.
  • Complete 16 hours of CRSS/CPRS Competency Training.
  • All staff are expected to become Certified Recovery Specialists (CRSS) within 1 year of being hired.

SALARY: $45,000.00 (annually)
