The Arc of Harrisonburg and Rockingham is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). As a DSP, you will play a vital role in providing care, support, and guidance to individuals with IDD, helping them to achieve their goals and participate fully in community life. By upholding The Arc's mission of promoting human rights and inclusion, DSPs make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

• Individualized Care and Support: Provide direct care and assistance to individuals with IDD by their individualized support plans. Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and transportation. Foster a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that promotes independence and self-determination.
• Skill Development and Enhancement: Support individuals in acquiring and honing skills that promote independence, self-sufficiency, and community integration. Implement skill-building activities and interventions tailored to each individual's needs, interests, and goals. Encourage participation in recreational, educational, and vocational opportunities that enhance personal growth and development.
• Advocacy and Empowerment: Advocate for the rights, preferences, and choices of individuals with IDD, ensuring their voices are heard and respected. Empower individuals to make informed decisions, exercise self-advocacy, and assert their rights within the community. Promote self-determination and autonomy by fostering opportunities for self-expression and decision-making.
• Community Inclusion and Engagement: Facilitate meaningful connections and participation in community activities, events, and social networks. Promote opportunities for individuals with IDD to engage with their peers, neighbors, and community resources. Support individuals in accessing and utilizing community services, amenities, and recreational opportunities that enrich their lives.
• Documentation and Reporting: Document accurately and timely services provided, individual progress, and significant events. Complete required paperwork, including daily logs, incident reports, and individual assessments, in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in human services or related field preferred.
• Previous experience working with individuals with IDD, developmental disabilities, or in a caregiving role preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to promoting human rights, dignity, and inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
• Compassionate, patient, and empathetic attitude toward individuals with diverse needs and abilities.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
