This position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County. This position will perform the full range of journey level work associated with the electrical systems at both a medium and minimum custody facility which house and provide services for approximately 1,038 male offenders with a staff size of 373. In addition, they perform a variety of tasks at or near the journey level in at least one other trade area that is significantly different from their primary trade. This position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Completing work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. 

2. Receiving work assignments from a supervisor and are performed independently and in accordance with accepted trade practices. 

3. Being able to decipher new or unusual work orders that are usually accompanied by sketches or blueprints. 

4. Work is reviewed through inspection of completed work for quality and compliance with work orders and is further evaluated on the

basis of the continued workability of equipment, systems, and fixtures repaired or installed.

5. Train/Supervise male offender workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled or skilled maintenance assignments.

  • Working knowledge of the design of electrical wiring and a working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building electrical systems.
