Texas Health and Human Services is Hiring a Network Specialist II Near Grand Prairie, TX

Job DescriptionNetwork Specialist II
Essential Job FunctionsMaintains the network's physical and logical structures, including network connections.
Maintains network support software and analyzes user support statistics, and recommends appropriate measures.
May supervise the work of others.
Performs related project work and assignments given by supervisor.
Installs, tests, and maintains network hardware and software.
Prepares and analyzes statistics on network utilization and availability.
Manages performance tuning and capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of the network resources.
Conducts product evaluations of upgraded or new hardware and software identifying strengths, weaknesses, and potential benefits to the agency; and recommends enhancements to network facilities.
Performs routine backups and archival of files stored on the network to assist in recovery efforts.
Assists in maintaining the operating system and security software utilized on the network, including the addition of new users to the network and establishment of rights and privileges.
Assists in maintaining the local area network or wide area network, cable and hub installations, inventories, and other related duties.
Prepares training courses and provides user support and training in the use of available hardware, software, and utilities.
May prepare budget recommendations for network facilities.
May train others
Knowledge Skills AbilitiesExperience with network facilities and data processing techniques
Experience with personal computer hardware and software
Experience with network operating system and security software
Experience with performance monitoring and capacity management tools
Experience in recognizing, analyzing, and resolving network problems
Experience Training Others On Technical Issues And/or Agency ProceduresExperience in supervising the work of others and coordinating work assignments of staff
Experience in effective verbal and written correspondence.
communication effectively either verbally or through written correspondence.
Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others including management, co-workers, subordinates and customers.
Registration Or Licensure RequirementsInitial Selection Criteria:Complete The State of Texas Application for Employment per instructions.
Two years' experience in network troubleshooting.
Two years' experience in a technical (computer) support.
Two years providing direct end-user technical support and desk-side PC repair services with a heavy emphasis on excellent customer service.
Experience in Local Area and wide area network support.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is generally preferred.
Education and full-time paid work experience in relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a year-for- year basis.

Requires travel 15%-30% of the time within the region using personal transportation. Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight lodging. Selected applicant must be able to move 30 pounds of computer equipment on a daily basis. Occasional overtime and weekend work required.
