Campbell County School District is Hiring an Athletic Trainer Near Gillette, WY

  • This position is for the 2024-2025 school year.

Nature And Scope Of JobTo provide for the prevention and care of athletic injuries for all interscholastic athletic teams. Coordinates efforts with team, athlete, parents and physicians/specialist to provide therapeutic rehabilitation in an attempt to expedite the athletes return to competition while keeping the student's mental and physical welfare as the top priority. To provide instruction in care and prevention of athletic injuries, first aid, and CPR to all coaches.
Job FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Counsels and advises athletes, coaches, and staff on matters pertaining to conditioning, diet, rest, exercise, reconditioning, and other similar health matters through individual conferences and/or group clinics.
  • Works cooperatively with coaches in selecting protective athletic equipment and gear and in checking it for safety.
  • Responsible for training and supervising student trainers. Also responsible for scheduling student trainers for athletic contests and practices.
  • Attends practices and contests on school and non-school days.
  • Is available for all scheduled games according to the priorities set by the Athletic Director and the trainer.
  • Oversees the taping, stretching and treatment of athletes prior to practices and competitions.
  • Prevents and cares for athletic injuries sustained at practice sessions and contests.
  • Maintains the final decision whether an injured athlete may continue in a practice session or game when present.
  • Provides post-practice and competition care and/or treatment.
  • Advises, formulates, and monitors rehabilitation protocols.
  • Preforms first aid and emergency procedures as needed.
  • Establishes and prepares to implement an emergency action plan at all venues. "
  • Ensures that the proper preventive and safety measures are taken before transportation of injured athlete to physician or hospital by approved conveyance.
  • Notifies the parents directly of any athlete taken to a physician and/or hospital in any emergency.
  • Carries out the order of the physician or doctor in regard to treatment after injury is diagnosed. Does not allow any athlete to play or practice unless he or she has written approval by the physician or doctor.
  • Works cooperatively with and under the direction of the physicians in respect to: a) rehabilitation procedures for athletic injuries, b) operation of therapeutic devices and equipment, c) fitting of braces, protective equipment, and other devices, and d) referral to doctors or hospital emergency room.
  • Is experienced in and has the ability and skill to use ultrasound, electrical stem, and other modalities under the supervision of a physician.
  • Responsible for the organization, inventory, and requisition of all training room supplies during the school year.
  • Will prepare and submit a budget of medical supplies and equipment needed for the coming school year.
  • Keeps accurate records of all athletic injuries including date of accident, appropriate evaluation, initial treatment, complete accident forms, physicians's recommendations and release dates, if applicable. Copies of records to the Director of Activities, Associate Director of Activities, and building Activities Directors as requested.
  • Maintains a file of physical examinations and an annual Medical Release Form including assumption of risk, proof of insurance, and financial obligation consent. Physicals are filed in the Activity Office at the end of the year.
Other Functions
  • Begin duties one week before the WHSAA allows sports to start practice in August.
  • Develops and maintains guidelines for health care of all athletic programs.
  • Keeps a master chart of all training room supplies as well as a record of the dispensing of said items.
  • Keeps containers labeled and marked properly.
  • Responsible for care and cleanliness of the training room and does not allow it to be a congregation spot.
  • Checks the safety of practice and game areas and the cleanliness of the locker room, shower room, and personal equipment by player.
  • Maintains responsibility for instruction of Care and Prevention of Athletic Injury to coaches/ sponsors.
  • Maintains responsibility for instruction of CPR to coaches/sponsors.
  • Maintains responsibility for the instruction of first aid workshop to insure that first aid certification is no more than three years old for coaches / sponsors.
  • Assists in scheduling the dates and the coordination of the process of physical examinations for sport athletes with physicians.
  • Is able to attend one national convention and one district convention each year to maintain " certification as a national certified trainer as schedule permits.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the Director of Activities.

Job QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND MENTAL ABILITY:
  • Possess sound emotional judgement.
  • Possess positive communication in working with students, parents, community health professionals, and in-district personnel.
  • Possess visual acuity, aided or non-aided, to read and interpret accurately written reports of a technical nature.
Education, License, Certification Or Formal Training
  • Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training.
  • National Athletic Trainers Association Certification.
  • Current first aid and CPR training.
  • First aid and CPR instructor preferred.
  • Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries instructor preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Lower body strength to stand and walk for long periods of time throughout the work day.
  • Upper body strength to lift 100 pounds and carry 100 feet.
  • Good flexibility to handle daily stress of bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Possess visual acuity and stamina to work at a computer monitor for at least part of the work day.
  • Possess sufficient strength to lift boxes or equipment that may weigh as much as 50 pounds and be able to move them as far as 50 feet.
Environmental Demands
  • Moderate to frequent exposure to weather extremes from minus 40 degrees fahrenheit to positive 110 degrees fahrenheit.
  • Frequent exposure to blood and body fluids that may contain hazardous and/or contagious diseases.
  • Frequent exposure to various supplies containing hazardous materials or chemicals.
  • Occupationally exposed to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
