Job Summary:
The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.
Role and Responsibilities:
• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
• Oversee and perform accounting, recordkeeping, and financial report for six multitiered Funds as well as the parent company Embree Capital Markets Group, Inc.
• Liaise with external auditor on fund audits and parent company audits for Embree Capital Markets Group, Inc.
• Perform month end close procedures such as - preparing monthly bank reconciliations and ensure bank accounts are balanced (50 entities), preparing and posting monthly journal entries including eliminations for reporting purposes, updating various support schedules to ensure they properly tie to the general ledger, preparing monthly billings for rent, interest, and any advisory fees, reviewing monthly expense reimbursements, remitting sales taxes and preparing and reviewing consolidated financial statements in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America (US GAAP)
• Perform quarterly procedures such as – determining cash flow for quarterly distributions and review calculations from external service providers to ensure in compliance with operating agreements and providing support and backup for Fund level transactions to external service providers and reviewing quarterly financial reports and investor statements.
• Coordinate with external tax accountants and third-party developers to get necessary information needed for them to prepare tax returns and investor/owners K-1’s.
• Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
• Oversee investor relationship staff and help to ensure operating agreements are all up-to date, contributions are reconciled to the general ledger and ensure investor questions are properly addressed.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Demonstrate a thorough understanding of complex accounting concepts such as consolidation/variable interest analysis.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required.
• Five years or more of related experience preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
