Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assess and diagnose hearing and balance disorders in patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, using specialized testing equipment and procedures.
2. Administer and interpret various tests, such as pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions, and electrophysiological tests (e.g., auditory brainstem response).
3. Evaluate the results of hearing and balance tests, and determine the appropriate course of treatment or management.
4. Recommend, select, and fit appropriate hearing aids, assistive listening devices, or other hearing rehabilitation equipment for patients with hearing loss.
5. Provide counseling and guidance to patients and their families regarding communication strategies, hearing aid use, and coping with hearing loss.
6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat doctors), speech-language pathologists, and educators, to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
7. Provide education and training to students, professionals, and the community on topics related to hearing and balance.
8. Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
Education and Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in audiology (Au.D.) from an accredited university program.
- State licensure or certification as an audiologist.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and software related to hearing and balance assessment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to continuing education and staying up-to-date with advancements in the field.
