Primary Responsibilities and Competencies: (Others may be assigned)

• Reads blueprints for specifications such as material, type, and size of stock, and dimensions to be cut. Obtains and transfers stock to machine.
• Installs saw blade and sets blade tension and cutting speed for specified operations. Sets stops and guides to control dimension of cut.
• Measures work for conformance to specifications
• Retrieves parts from staging areas
• Helps prep weldments for priming and finish coating
• Positions and secures work piece to table, angle plate, or vises and verifies position
• Sets up balancing machine to fit roll
• Interprets machine readings and adds or subtracts weight depending on the reading
• Drills, grinds, chips, or files metal from heavy side or welds, solders or rivets pieces to light side to correct imbalance
• Moves controls to set feeds, speeds, and depth of cut, and to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, verifying position visually, with instruments, and by reading dials
• Verifies dimensions of machined work piece with such measuring instruments as micrometers, telescoping gauges, vernier calipers, and dial indicators. Works to close tolerances.
• Must adhere to safety requirements of the shop and maintain a clean work environment

Qualifications and Experience:

• Two years experience in related fields as well as basic mechanical skills and aptitude.
• Ability to get along with and communicate effectively with fellow employees.
• Must be a self-starter and dependable worker, who is committed to continuous improvement.
• Basic math skills, especially the ability to read a tape measure and measuring instruments.
• Mechanical skills and aptitude. Blueprint reading and interpretation.
• Owns hand tools and measuring instruments.
