FRANKLIN CITY PUBLIC SCHOOLS is Hiring a Teacher Assistant (General Education) Near Franklin, VA

Essential Job Functions:
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. The omission of an essential function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

  • Assists assigned instructor with classroom preparation and coursework delivery, e.g., sorting, counting, filing, clerical duties.
  • Assists instructor in maintaining classroom order and discipline.
  • Organizes and effectively communicates class/course objectives, standards and requirements for successful student achievement.
  • Assists in administration of various tests according to student academic level and course work.
  • Assists students in small groups or individually, in completing assignments or classroom activities, under teacher supervision and direction.
  • Escorts or assists students to and from various rooms and buildings on school campus, may include getting on or off school bus.
  • Provides communication link between contact teacher, students and parents.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to students as directed, in order to ensure appropriate assimilation of class/course content.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Ability to understand, follow and lead written and oral instructions.
Ability to effectively lead/supervise a group comprised of students engaged in carrying out classroom activities/functions.
Knowledge of business English and spelling; knowledge of basic math.
Considerable knowledge of academic discipline being delivered.
Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
Ability to perform routine typing and basic computer operations, i.e., data entry, word processing and records retrieval.
Ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications; ability to read, update and maintain various records and files.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with departmental personnel, instructors and students.
Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion.
Ability to perform duties with a professional and cooperative work ethic; ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and stand for long periods of time; walk; lift up to 25 pounds.
Knowledge of basic School District work policies and guidelines; knowledge of departmental practices and procedures.

Education / Certifications / Experience:
Associate's Degree or passing grade on the Para-Pro Test; supplemented by six (6) to twelve (12) months responsible experience supervising children, with a demonstrated aptitude for working with children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
