Barrett Distribution Centers is Hiring an Assistant Controller Near Franklin, MA

The Position:The Assistant Controller, reporting to the Controller, is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, participating in annual audits, managing invoices, meeting industry guidelines, and following state and federal accounting laws. Is responsible for all activities within the general ledger and Accounting Department. This position works from 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Position is hybrid with expectations of being in office at least 3 days per week.The compensation range for this position is $95K-$125K, depending on experience.Your Day-to-Day:Ensures the accurate, timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles for the accounting function by effective planning, monitoring and problem solving.Provides analytical commentary of large variances to budget.Leads and coordinates the Year-end Audit with external auditors, preparing and reviewing reconciled schedulesReviews and updates the corporate insurance policies as needed.Manage the federal, state & local tax, business licenses and regulatory filings.Manage the daily bank accounts and prepares electronic payments to be approved by Controller.Provides guidance to Payroll ensuring proper payroll accounting including setting up new state and local tax withholdingsProvides schedules for state tax, insurance policies audit and other auditable programs.Manages the invoicing process of Cost-Plus accounts, ensuring the capture of all billable costs. Ensures accounting is following GAAP rules and the accuracy of the General Ledger accounts.Determines the proper accounting of fixed assets and depreciation schedules.Reviews and updates documented department procedures and processes as needed; create internal controls and policies.In conjunction with the Controller, attracts, develops and retain high performing, diverse talent within the business; build future leaders through mentoring and serving as a role model.Provides leadership and oversight of the accounting staff; develop and communicate clear goals and expectations for assigned staff; provide ongoing training and development opportunities. Actively leads meetings and effectively communicates department goals and company-wide information.Performs other duties as assigned. What You'll Bring to the Table:Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an accounting department or related position with an additional two (2) years’ prior management experience strongly preferred. Experience must demonstrate strong financial analysis skills.Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)Proficiency in all Microsoft business applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required Prior accounting software/ERP knowledge. Experience with NetSuite, Sage (Peachtree), Salesforce.com, Tableau, ADP, Ceridian preferred. Experience must demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written, as well as organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this classification.
